So why would they fully evacuate a building for a minor power outage. They show some people leave (most of which are panicking and kids crying everywhere) and in a very next shot show people standing in a lobby waiting and messing around with their phones.

It was a power outage.... I don't know where you are from... but out here in LA we don't evacuating entire buildings because the lights went off. (office building do tend to leave the higher floors but not lower areas. It can get hot up there.)

And again, how about all the first responders to the injured that they did have, police securing the area after the bombs, and the firefighter present to tackle the situation.

It is totally laughable that 0 people died and only 27(?) had just "minor" injuries.

I don't know, maybe because it was the Metropolitan Government Building (and it was a pretty major outage)? I don't live in Japan, maybe that's SOP for blackouts in skyscrapers or government buildings. I actually do live in CA, but when the power goes out we do mostly leave the building because we can't see anything with only emergency lighting to keep working. In the anime, they clearly expected an evacuation from that building for whatever reason, they got one, and there was plenty of time to accomplish it. That's good enough for me.

The scene you mention I think was in a train station or subway, judging by the signs. Probably to show how widespread the blackout was.

There weren't any injuries before the bombs, the people that were injured apparently got hurt at a distance, having been moved back before the bombs went off. Despite the similarities in the images, this wasn't a 9/11 magnitude event, but you keep reading it as if it were exactly the same.

I will agree that 27 is a remarkably low number of injured. Maybe it depends on how they define "injured," since I think, given what we were shown, a lot of people would have had respiratory problems despite the prevalence of face masks in Tokyo. Maybe they weren't counting cuts and bruises from glass and debris, just broken bones and serious gashes or something, i.e., not requiring hospitalization.

Well if that was a train station or subway station, that isn't a good way to try to show a place has been evacuated. It doesn't make it seem clear that they are evacuating everyone and 1 or 2 shots later show a bunch of people standing around an escalator messing with their phones.

There really isn't any basis for saying when the injuries occurred. We have nothing to go by that says that they were not injured by explosions, debris falling or some other related injury. The subs I saw said "minor" injuries.... that usually involves everything that you listed. ( cuts/bruises, non life threatening broken bones, inhalation, etc)

Also, no. I am not reading this a "9/11 magnitude event". I just looking at this from a more realistic view point. Like I have said in the other posts too, it is not only about the civilians present. There are EMS, Police, Firefighters all at the area. Police and FF being in the thick of the event would have more than likely caused several deaths when that building fell.

But whatever it not like going back an forth on this will change anything. This show is still quite decent. I am still just waiting this for a reason to continue watching it. I need some sort of back story for these characters to keep me interested in the story. Just seeing explosions going off and some chick with mommy issues hasn't been real griping yet. I am hoping the stuff with 9 and 12 is going to be intriguing.

I see the potential here for Lisa to become a very dangerous character. spoiler[Given that while we have seen flashbacks from the boy's past they are still keeping the innocents out of the destruction. Meanwhile we have a girl who has been abused in various states, unleashing her anger might have unintended consequences.]

Would love to see that turn of events.

I'm enjoying this show, but I'm really waiting for Lisa to actually have some role in the plot. So far all she's done is wander around morosely and get bullied.

Still pretty good, but two things massively hold it back.

1) It's death note, but without Light and L charisma/uniqueness. Yeah the MC have there secret, but it still doesn't seems interesting, they've only alluded to it but it feel like we already know, bet it's gonna be linked spoiler[to the suicide/murder case we just heard about] because everything has to be connected and all that. The older detective is interesting but just barely, just another detective who was fired for political reason, I'm guessing episode 7-8 we'll find out he has a daughter in high school that he barely ever see but he'll help her with some problem and they'll be reunited (I really hope it doesn't turn out to be Lisa).

2) The main characters take really stupid risk for no reason, they've personally been on every crime scene, showing there face in broad daylight, yet the cop can't identify them, they can't even manage a good portrait, one of them was working in an highly secured nuclear facility, where he probably had to be ID a few time a day by guards and all they can manage is some rough sketch (pretty sure you need to go trough specific training to be allowed to work in place with nuclear material, they have to be part of some organism that monitor the amount of radiation they take and limit the amount of time they can work, that organism should have all the info they'd need)? It doesn't feel like there some super genius, just that the cops are incredibly incompetent, and I just can't really care what happens to such incompetent people. The few time Light would do something himself, we'd be shown all the step he took to ensure he wouldn't be suspect, here we have one of them just walk in and be filmed by a bunch of camera, doesn't even bother avoiding them.

On Lisa, why did they even include her? I mean maybe she'll have a role later on, but then why not include her then? Now she's just… there. And it's pretty hard to feel sympathetic for her, when her mother clearly need help and she just brush it off, too busy walling in self pity.

Episode 3

spoiler[Kinderheim 511], Far East branch.

I dunno, the plot holes aren't bugging me yet, maybe because the ambience is working for me and I like all the characters except Lisa.

It was explained that the photographs of the suspect were erased "somehow" from the computer. So all they ended up with was a police artist sketch.

I can tell you have never worked in a nuclear facility. I have. By and large the low level workers there tend to be dumb as dirt. Homer Simpson who works in a nuke plant is smart in comparison. This doesn't apply to the top level engineers who are generally pretty smart and specialist technicians who are well trained but they are the minority of the population.

As a computer consultant I went through the mandatory training to get access to the site and the comprehension level of the other trainees is hard to describe. Think of the stupidest kid you ever met in grade school and go a couple levels below that.

I don't have a problem with Lisa; I actually feel quite bad for her. Her situation reminds me of Stephen King's Carrie and I'm wondering what she's gonna do when she finally cracks. Unfortunately, she doesn't have superpowers, but her connection to the terrorists gives her the perfect opportunity to inflict some major damage.

I like Twelve's quirky & perky personality. His happy-go-lucky attitude lightens up the show (loved the cola gag in ep 2). He very obviously cares about Nine and is worried about his mental state, which adds a humanity to them both.

Shibasaki is interesting as well. A brilliant detective with an axe to grind and a crappy, nuclear bomb tinged childhood. They just need to deepen his character a bit more. I'm sure they'll delve into the spoiler["he had a family" thing. I *really* hope Lisa isn't his daughter, though. That'd be too cut and dry.]

This show has been building itself up at a slow and steady pace, and I have full faith in the creative powers behind it that it will not fizzle out.

As for the lack of casualties, if the show wants me to believe that brilliant terrorists are capable of bombing buildings without innocents dying because they plan their attacks that well, I can buy it. I do hope they provide a decent explanation on how they have so much money and resources.

One thing that does bug me: enough with the fat jokes! Seriously, did they have to make the fat cop annoying and lazy?

Three eps in and still enjoying it, especially episode 3.

There's the occasional line here and there that's a bit off for me (and as soon as over-self-conscious-salary-thief-fat-guy introduced that mobile game, it was painfully clear it would be spoiler[just what the detective needed], but overall this show is still shaping up well.

For fellow students of Japanese, here are the last two post-credits riddles:

Episode 2:

If "F+" means "晴" (hare, clear weather)
and "#?" means "雨" (ame, rain)
and "HML" means "曇" (kumori, cloudy)

Then what does "(G" mean?

spoiler[This one requires a Japanese keyboard to figure out. Japanese keyboards, in addition to the alphabet, have the hiragana characters written on the keys. To crack this one, you just find the hiragana that share the same keys with the romaji given above. The answer is 雪(ゆき)yuki (snow)].

Episode 3:

From "ネコ(cat)、ネズミ(mouse)、キツネ(fox)," ネズミ(mouse) is left out.
From "まつ(pine)、たけ(bamboo)、うめ(plum)," たけ(bamboo) is left out.
So from "イルカ(dolphin)、クジラ(whale)、シャチ(killer whale)," which is left out?

spoiler[The trick here is to convert all the words to kanji.

猫、鼠、狐
松、竹、梅
海豚、鯨、鯱

In the first line, all but "mouse" have a radical on the left that represents a tail.
In the second line, all but "bamboo" have radical on the left that signifies a tree.
In the third line, all but "dolphin" have a radical on the left that signifies a fish, so the answer is "イルカ”

Hm. According to the kanji spelling, dolphins are "sea pigs." Learn something new every day...

I liked this episode more than the second one. I very much enjoy the pace we learn things about the characters' pasts. I love that it's given to us in bits and pieces. By now, it's obvious that blowing stuff up is spoiler[just some sort of medium and not the end game. They are testing the police, and they did not seem disappointed at all when Mr. super detective solved the riddle in time, on the contrary.] There are some things that feel off, like, as already mentioned, the other archives guy playing that game just at the right moment for Shibasaki to make the connection. I don't think they just want to wreck havoc. They seem determined to make sure their message will be understood before putting that plutonium to use. 12 stating spoiler[he will make sure not to get too attached to Lisa because it would be "more painful" in the end] sounds like they already have everything mapped out in their minds. I wander what the pre-plutonium message will be, just shedding light on the suffering inflicted upon them? This feels much more Monster than Death Note to me, which is a good thing. I wander when white haired girl will join the scene. They seem to believe spoiler[she's dead], 9 being haunted by the memory, which we know isn't true. spoiler[As she didn't manage to escape with them], does that mean she's still working for the institution/government agency spoiler[that held them captive]? They will find out who's behind those attacks eventually (maybe that's exactly what 9 and 12 want, establish communication with those folks, expose them to the world before punishing everyone), so will she be the one hunting them at some point? Reminds of of James Cameron's Dark Angel, minus the superpowers and human/animal hybrids (thank God).

Yes, that's what I like about the show at this stage too. The whole "terrorists playing games with the police" angle is fairly cliche but it works here because there's clearly more going on behind the scenes. It's apparent they want them to solve their riddles. Or at least, they're using this whole riddle game to gather information.

Episode 3

I get it now, the whole purpose of what they are doing is spoiler[to get attention, they want to get all the eyes and brightest minds on them so that they will find out about the horrors of the facility]. If they just spoiler[told the authorities it might actually get swept under, not believed, or perhaps there are people high up involved]. They want to make spoiler[sure that the truth gets out, for that they need a good detective].
