I watched a couple episodes of this and the logic leaps made my eyes roll so hard. No thanks.

Yeah, the detective work on the series is on the level of the 1960s Batman movie which had an exchange like this.

RIDDLER: What's yellow and writes.

ROBIN: A ball point banana!

Batman (holding a yellow #2 pencil): Exactly Robin, the only possible answer.

But the Japanese idea of what constitutes a good mystery is vastly different from the English speaking world.

Never saw the first series or anything related to it, don't really care about its sequel. Nice to see something pretty much brand new, but I have doubts as to whether or not it even has a fanbase here, CR's only subbing it because they're obligated to.

Yeah, if Toei's going to collaborate with Sols on a crowdfunder, it should be for PreCure. Or at least the original Kindaichi anime.

that might be because it is a parody of kogoro akechi the first japanese detective and is the guy the main charcter keeps talking about. also the whole thing with miyuki being mistaken for ran (they renamed her Rachel in case closed) is an indication what this series is like. or why all the female charcters like a 40 year white haired guy, etc etc..
if you do not know anything about japanese detective fiction or a lot about golden age mystery fiction you will not get a lot of the jokes in this series.

Also yes this series is not everyones cup of tea it is a hard core golden age murder mystery series. if you like those you will probably love this to try and think up what the crazy answer is supposed to be.

Even with the few success stories under Anime Sols I can't support them anymore.

I'm still sad over Hurricane Polymar not making it's goal. Outside of Black Jack only Shojo and Magical Girl anime only gets funded on Anime Sols. No one wants to help support the stuff I like Sad

Did you listen to the new ANNCast with Sam from Anime Sols? He actually specifically mentioned that they might do another campaign for Polymar that targets the super hardcore fans with premium sets.

This show... is horrible. I'm all for mystery shows, but this one is abysmal. There is no actual crime solving, it's just people pulling stuff out of their ass. Unlike Detective Conan, us viewers cannot even form a theory of our own, since many times, we're not even shown the clues. The straw that broke my back was when the geek gets his glasses bent, so he shows Kindaichi how they are made from a special alloy that resets its shape when put in hot water. Wouldn't you know it, that's exactly how the killer got away, and 2 seconds later, the figures it out. Lucky his friend just HAPPENED to have the EXACT SAME ALLOY that the killer had. And this happens constantly. They just HAPPEN to run into the very person they were looking for in the park. They just HAPPEN to be there at the EXACT time to see the victim hated butterflies. They just HAPPENED to... you get the idea. It's just a series of contrived resolutions.

I bought Dear Brother and Creamy Mami. I love that they've got enough energy to try another series. This one is not my cup of tea, but it's promising to see them try to fund a current title. I hope they succeed.

Nope I've must of missed it but I really want to own Polymar. I really enjoy a lot of the old Tatsunoko stuff and disappointed when it didn't even meet it's goal. Last time I check it wasn't even close. I figured no one gave a hoot about Polymar, except me and the little people that cared to support it.

I know Sentai Filmworks Signed a deal with Tatsunoko Production to release 11 titles but one of them was Gatchaman Crowds which I found rather disappointing. I own all the old stuff Sentai released so far like Casshan, Gatachaman, Time Bokan etc... Was hoping they would get Polymar since Anime Sols wasn't able to release it. Yatterman would be awesome too...

I couldn't even get through the first case in this show, so sadly, this is another title I won't be able to support. Sorry, Sam.

Actually, other than the metal alloy, I had pretty much figured it out by the last episode. For instance, they didn't just happen to meet the girl, they were led to her, precisely so they would meet her. My main problem with the first case was that it was too easy. The only time that it fooled me was when I thought the problem I spotted was so obvious that I figured it couldn't be the solution... but it was.

The second case was just a second rate version of an early case in the first series, and it did make some leaps, but I thought it was alright.

But what I just don't get about this news is, why not fund the first series first? From what I've watched of it, it's superior to this new one, has a modest following already (the same people who would buy this new sequel), and it's not like the first series was ever released, I can't even find fansubs for the entire run.

Personally, I'm more interested to find out when my 2nd Black Jack set is going to finally ship and when the campaign for the 3rd set will start.

Yes the new series is a lot more obvious about what it parodies and is not as subtitle as the first one. the metal alloy thing was supposed to be a parody of shows that break knox 6th 8th and 9th laws of mystery fiction.

what they did actually is the author ended the main series and the sequel series a long time ago. but they have been occasionally putting out 2 volume one case series which is what they are currently adapting.

I would fund subs for the first series and probably do/find the subs for them myself I actually know quite a few translators at pro level who have done episodes of it.

Crowds was never part of that deal, this was confirmed at their panel at Anime Weeked Atlanta last September.
