Well, let's hope the anime continues then. I've been enjoying it, but no idea how much of the manga may have been covered in these 12 episodes.

An anime that Kojima-sensei says will give Japan its "cool" back?! I MUST SEE THIS! <_<

I actually dropped this show because I thought the animation was not fun to look at which is pretty much how I feel about all CG animes.

I suppose I could give it another chance. Still not a fan of the CG animation though.

^ That was pretty much my reasons for dropping it too.

Blue Steel was somewhat of an ordeal for me to finish because even if i thought the show was decent the animation was just so clunky looking I was tempted to drop it every second I was watching it.

If this 3DCGI animation had a bit more polish I'd be ok with it but so far that hasn't been the case.

Whilst I agree, I fail to see why you'd draw the comparison? Shinsekai Yori wasn't particularly sci-fi, even if it was dystopian. It looks like Sidonia may well end up having pretty similar themes to Shinsekai Yori and Gargantia, but aesthetically (and in terms of what Kojima seems to be praising) they're all quite different.

Also, this serves as yet more proof that Kojima's become somewhat lost in his own head. I think Sidonia is one of the better anime this season, but if he truly thinks it's going to be so globally popular as to bring a renewed sense of 'Japanese cool' to the sci-fi genre, he should probably refrain from speculating publicly on such things ever again... Also, if he sees it as a paradigm of good Japanese story telling, it's no wonder MGS' plot has gone to buggery.

I wasn't comparing I was speaking out of anger. If there's an underrated anime show that deserves this sort of acclaims and praises is From The New World. And it is sci-fi, their whole system works on a scientific ground.

I don't know if anyone has licensed it for home release yet, but Netflix have licensed it for streaming and all 12 episodes will be available July 4th, a week after the last epsiode airs in Japan.

Please producers in Japan, listen to what these veteran creators in their own rights are saying. Look at what happens when we get sci-fi/mecha anime like Gundam Unicorn, Yamato 2199, Knights of Sidonia and even the fun fare that is Gundam Build Fighters vs. those like Captain Earth, Nobunaga The Fool and M3 and the staggering differences between how popular they are and how much they sell and please realize what it is fans clearly want more of out of the genre. Mecha anime producers are great at providing lots of funding for projects lately but some are just completely out of touch with what fans want. That needs to change for the genre to really thrive again instead of just the occasional success.....mostly from Bandai Visual.

Part of me thinks that the 3DCGI wouldn't go over well in America. I thought it was strange that no one has licensed Blue Steel either. I don't recall if there has been any other shows animated like this licensed in America in the past but i think it might be risky.

Gosh, I really can't stand 3DCG characters in Japanese animation.

While i do agree From the new world is definitely one of my favorites getting angry at something unrelated that probably won't even get the love it deserves is a bit unheard of..

It sounds rather biased and makes me wonder if you follow the original work at all, if we're going by art and production SURE from the new world is absolutely beautiful in comparison but Sidonia didn't get lucky in that regard.

And i'm not exactly sure how well known Ftnw is in japan but if it got an adaptation that good from the light novel i'm sure it has enough fans, heck look at MAL those numbers are nothing to scoff at.

You should be happy something that looks more promising then AOT is getting praise.
And if anything i should be mad the series Isayama Hajime got his ideas from spoiler[Muv-Luv] continues to be under appreciated. Sidonia has a few moments here and there in the manga but it's not as blatantly obvious Nihei is such a good writer i honestly don't care in his case.
