So are they basically saying don't buy ORAS? Because Emerald is my favorite Pokémon game by far.

They trademarked WaterBlue back when FRLG was released, but nothing came of it so it might just be a placeholder title.

Let's see, they already have these color names: Red, Green (not released in the USA), Blue, Yellow, Gold and Silver, Crystal, Ruby and Sapphire, FireRed and LeafGreen, Emerald, Diamond and Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Black and White, and Black2 and White2.
Wonder what other colors they plan on using.

None, judging by X and Y.
And yeah, this likely doesn't mean much of anything for consumers. They trademarked Pokemon WaterBlue and Pokemon Grey as well as others that never came to anything. It's just covering bases.
What interests me the most is that if an Emerald remake were to come, it would be Delta and not Gamma or something else.

You do realize they probably have no intentions of actually making a Delta Emerald game, right? They're just covering bases.

I know but it feels like pokemon is becoming the cod/madden of handhelds now. A new entry in the main franchise keeps showing up every year since 2009 and it's a bit crazy and hard on the wallet.

How is just $40 once per year hard on the wallet...

True however I usually get both versions, a hint guide along with a updated pokedex. That usually sets me back 200 dollars depending on where I shop. Again that's not a lot of money but I don't really have that much to spend per year on entertainment as it is.

Remakes have always come in pairs and include the features that the third version in the original trio plus more, so don't get your hopes up.

Now? Pokemon has been the CoD/Madden of handhelds for at least a decade now.

This is wrong, only HeartGold and SoulSilver did that. FireRed and LeafGreen didn't include Yellow elements, and Emerald elements can't just be tossed into Ruby and Sapphire like Crystal elements could be into Gold and Silver.

It's an absolute non-story. Numerous Pokémon trademarks have been made in the past but never used (notable examples include Pokémon Water Blue, Pokémon Grey and even Pokémon Moon Stone). It's just a precautionary trademark.

Emerald elements could very easily be added in. HeartGold/SoulSilver didn't feature an exact copy of Crystal's story. I expect some Emerald-only features such as the Battle Frontier and Mirage Tower to be randomly thrown in.
As for the story though? It would be more difficult but not impossible. I'd like to see Rayquaza incorporated into the story more, instead of just being dumped in the Sky Pillar like in the original pair. Maybe the climax could be a mix of R/S and Emerald in that say, the villain team of your version awakens the version mascot, but the ally team awakens the opposite legendary to try and help in the fight, Rayquaza comes down and quells the ensuing battle, then you go to Cave of Origin to capture the version mascot? (with the other legendary simply going back into its slumber, never to be seen again)?

The trio for Generation I was RGB, Y came later. (FRLG remade RGB, not Yellow.) Considering that ORAS are technically new games (not original), Emerald elements CAN be EASILY incorporated. (Why Crystal elements could be incorporated into HGSS.)

RGB is just three versions of the same game instead of two, none of them are a "third" version; Yellow was the extra, the equivalent of Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum.
Emerald story elements cannot be implemented into R/S so easily. R/S has you fighting Team Magma OR Team Aqua, Emerald has you against both. R/S focuses specifically on their version legendary with the other one not being around at all and Rayquaza just being a post-game extra, while Emerald has more of a focus on Rayquaza but with all three present and important in the story.
The three just don't exist side-by-side. Crystal elements were easily incorporated into HG/SS because the additions Crystal had didn't conflict with the story that already existed, so they could easily add it in alongside the main story.
Elements like the Battle Frontier from Emerald can definitely be implemented, but the story line can't so easily. Ryu Shoji's idea is something, but that's less adding in Emerald elements and more just re-imagining the story completely.

All of the past unused trademarks aside, have we *ever* seen these trademarks become real titles?
