Finally that dangerous spycam is gone, now if MS can get some games that appeal to me such as a remake or sequel to Gunmetal and Mechassault, I could actually invest in the console. I also wouldn't mind a mascot platformer to come to the Xbox One, something in the form of a new IP though.

Still a 25% weaker system for the same price. It's already showing in early games but it the gap will be wider in later releases.

Given how the XBone has done well up to now despite all that negative publicity and being US$100 more expensive than the PS4, I suspect that lowering the price due to removing Kinect will have a significant boost for sales. I wouldn't be surprised if the XBone caught up to the PS4 by the first quarter next year.

Well Microsoft finally grew a brain and made the Kinect optional. Still, they probably need a really big surprise hit to catch up to the PS4 at this point, since Microsoft was responding to Sony's 7 million sold number with 5 million shipped a little while back.
Even with this announcement though, I still won't consider getting the XBone.

So can we file away crappy motion sensor technology in the special bin holding the Sony EyeToy, GunCon, the Nintendo Power Glove and the R.O.B.?

Funny, considering they've said in the past the two were inseparable.

Yup. And that's probably really conservative given the comparisons of the graphics cards and how much better the PS4's is (let alone its superior memory).

Nah, it'll probably do better being cheaper than before, but that's doubtful. It's still considerably weaker at the same price, not cheaper. Multiplatform games will continue to be substantially better on PS4 due to the superior hardware and Sony can supposedly cut the PS4's price whenever they need to as well.

Microsoft has claimed a lot of things about the XBone which they subsequently admitted weren't true. That they're dropping Kinect comes as no surprise.

I doubt this will make a difference to the sales now. The PS4 will always be ahead, because the people who bought it at launch will be telling their friends and family to buy a PS4, so they can play with them. And I'll be one of them; seeing as, I already gave some to friends and family on thier Birthdays and back in Christmas. They should've done this from the get-go and seeing as the PS4 are flying off the shelves, I bet they'll announce a PS4 Slim by the end of the year at E3.

No Crunchyroll app, no buy.
Not that the 360 app was ever perfect.

The XBone has the edge of games, and even most nerds don't care about GPU stats. It's worth mentioning that the PS3's hardware was better than the XBox 360 but cross-platform games looked inferior and ran worse on the PS3. Raw power isn't everything; it's what you do with it that counts. All the PS3 really had in terms of genuine advantage was free online play and a Blu Ray drive.
Anyway, my point was that the XBone was doing well despite its disastrous unveiling and being more expensive than the PS4, so lowering the price should make it even more competitive. A lot of people I know - including myself - are holding off on buying a next-gen console until prices come down, so by firing the first shot in the inevitable price war Microsoft is making the XBone look rather attractive. If the XBone is a success now - and it is by historical standards - then imagine what a 20% price drop will do. And all Microsoft has done with this move is offered their console without an annoying and expensive addon in Kinect; they still can drop the price of the actual system itself.
Now, I'm a diehard Sony fan so I'll be buying a PS4 over the XBone, but a lot of other people will buy a console at Christmas and they'll be looking for a good deal. The XBone will probably never catch up to the PS4 but like I said I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

Xbox One Eighty strikes again
I've already bought a PS4 so I don't need one, but I've spent enough time using an Xbox One at other people's homes now to see just how... sluggish everything is in comparison to what I've been using on both PS4 and even 360 in some respects.
Seriously, even the online features seem like a pain in the ass to use compared to the PS4, with no noticeable advantages on Xbox One anywhere. The Xbox 360 felt like a generation ahead of the PS3 on this front ffs, so how does this happen?
No reason nor desire to buy one of these to be honest. It just offers nothing of worth at this point in time.

While it's nice to see a price drop, it's kinda sad from a development point of view. With the kinect being included with every Xbox One, developers could design games with the knowledge that pretty much everyone will have access to the kinect. That will sadly not be the case anymore and could just cement the kinect as the red-headed step child people don't want to deal with once again. Less incentive for developers to do something creative with it when they know not everyone will have access to a kinect. And those that do have creative ideas with it will most likely not see as much of a profit from it with a lesser kinect user base. Although no developer has really made a compelling argument for the kinect through creative use yet on the Xbox One.
Jeff Gertsmann put it nicely, "Congratulations to everyone with Kinect games in development."

Indeed the xone for most games is only 720fps and most games only look a lil better then the 360 counter parts as is the ps4 is still a much better buy with most games being 1080p and the fact ps plus is still a better deal. Don't get me wrong the xone will sell more thanks to this but i still feel Sony will blow them away at E3

That's true, but the PS4 doesn't have an architecture that's such a nightmare to develop for. Instead, it shares the same basic architecture with the XBone, which essentially reduces it to a numbers game.
