Good news indeed. My friend from Macau (island next to HK) said the bootlegging was getting really out of hand in china.

Getting? There will have to be about a dozen more of these gangs brought to book before it will make any significant difference in at lease reducing it. Maybe then they might finally take notice, .....maybe.

Heh, if they manage to take the bootleggers cash as well I'm sure they'll take more action in the future Wink .
Sure, it's only a drop in the ocean, but you've got to start somewhere...

Gotta be honest when I was there in Kowloon if the store happened to shut one day, it would be open the next. These guys only know about money and they'll do whatever it takes to get it.

It's all bloody show anyway. These gangs are controlled by the Chinese mafia who have many palms greased in government. this is nothing but window dressing to appease the overseas companies that have been screaming blue murder for them to do something and also to appease the likes of Japan and the US governments who have also been loudly vocal at the Chinese govenments lack of control, or even interest in taking these bootleggers out. These guys will probably be out in 6 months to do it all again and the factory will just relocate and continue on from where they got interupted like nothing's ever happened. It's a scam to try and pull the wool over our eyes.

I'm going to have to go with Mohawk52 on this one. This is just the Chinese Gov't trying to appease overseas companies/gov'ts. I really don't think that they actually care but with the Olympics in Beijing coming up, I think that the Chinese Gov't wants to look as good as possible to the outside world that they are improving on what others see as their biggest issues: piracy, human rights, etc.

But, I do have to say, at least they've done something. You have to give them credit for that. These pirates are usually caught at the source; they're usually caught when the pirated DVDs/CDs have arrived at their destination.

The article wrote:
The bootleggers were in possession of over 40,000 pirated DVDs of the Gundam anime...

This announcement comes two months after another arrest by the Hong Kong C&ED where four bootleggers were arrested for pirating Astro Boy DVDs and other anime.

No word yet on the gangs bootlegging Gigantor or Kimba the White Lion?

So does this mean that the new Astro Boy series and the original Gundam series are finally going to get good DVD releases out here?

LOL To begin with, the reason there are bootlegs is cause they don't even import stuff to some countries.

Like Singapore (and maybe Malaysia) gets Odex to do the original VCDs/DVDs (more o VCD cos it's more profitable and VCD is the more popular choice.

What's in eachbox set? Japanese/Chinese dual audio with English subititles. Why the hel can't they get the audio to be Japanese/Eng with Eng subs? If they do that, it's so much better.

I admit somtimes I just buy the bootleg One Piece movies cos there isn't any way to get them here.
