I thought she wrote romance novels...
Well, this could be interesting... I wonder if it will be released in the US at all in English...

Remember that episode of Family Guy where Brian goes to an acupuncturist, and the Asian person speaks with an Irish accent? Off topic, but still funny.

Why not just call it "The Otaku Wears Prada" and get it over with?
I think that's the point. |
LOL, can't call it that because there will be absolutely nothing haute-couture about this story, I'm sure!
Could just call it "The Otaku Diaries".

In any event, this is actually the kind of irrelevent, unnotable news that I was hoping ANN wouldn't post (I guess I lost that one poll?). No offense, but this is news that has nothing to do with anything.
BTW, sorry I haven't posted in a while.

Well I'm glad ANN are reporting this because I think the book sounds intriguing if a bit unrealistic. I enjoy "chick lit" and I'm curious about this not only because of the manga connection but also because of the 'women in comics' connection (mind you it's not like there aren't a lot of female manga-ka compared to the low number of female western style comic professionals... but I'm still curious).

That's just it. This article was posted based on a technicality. This is the "crass manga-sploitation" that ANN previously polled us about. Any way you slice it, it's still an American (text only, non-graphic) novel by an American author, and that has nothing to do with anything. Further, for all we know (and anybody else, for that matter), she probably doesn't even know what she's talking about.
How much does she know about "manga" (i.e., Japanese comics)?
How much does she know about the people who read it (i.e., the community)?
How much other research went into this as a whole?
More importantly, even with any research done, what is the extent of her understanding and perception of Japanese manga? Does she think it's all "adult" oriented, or does she understand the differences between our two cultures/societies, thus understanding that it's a medium for all ages? In other words, how do we know it won't be biased in some way.
In any event, it's irrelevent. The bottom line is that this article has nothing to with manga or anime, it just talks about a completely American creation that incorporates (the creator's perception of) the Japanese anime and manga media (pl. of "medium") into the work itself; the technicality I told you about. It's the kind of news we could read on websites about American novels. It is not noteworthy enough to be posted on this website (ANN), because the article doesn't actually talk about anime and manga itself.
Now do you understand, or do I need to explain further?

Um I understand, I'm not an idiot. I get exactly where you are coming from and I personally disagree on some level. I do have to admit I do think we get a fair amount of 'manga-spoliation' and perhaps this shouldn't be reported on ANN. I'm just saying I'm personally glad I found out about this. I dunno if I would've, at least not so soon, without the ANN posting but I can see why it is frustrating to some. Perhaps I am just less bothered by this sort of posting.
Mind you I do think the "Polish 'fansubber' arrests" article may be pushing it given that, IIRC not of the stuff they were arrested for fansubbing was anime.
