That's basically what it comes down to, you can't stop every fansubber but you need to work smarter. Utilize VOD and internet sales like direct to drive. Basically most of us knew what licenses were going to be announced already but it's good to hear that it's official. I can't for those releases.

The A.D.V. panels are always interesting, and I can't wait to see what they'll have in store for the rest of the year's announcements. But for cripes sake, when are we gonna get an update on "Sgt. Frog", like, when and where will it get T.V. broadcast?! That's what I'm really interested in, because A.D.V. has a big opportunity with the series and I don't want to see it get wasted. Can't wait to see their new manga plans, and I hope they release some more old-school anime down the line, because even though it doesn't sell as well there needs to be more of it on the shelves.

It's not going to be AnimeNetwork? Does ADVhave plans to try to get it on [AS] or CN? I'd hadn't heard of that, I wonder when we'll know more the Frog.

Small little error.

Good response to the fansubbing issue...looking forward to seeing more innovative ways of "working around it." I'm liking the monthly release schedule for Air.

Heh, let's hope that ADV Manga does start publishing again. I hope they finish ARIA and Steel Angel Kurumi. Maybe they aren't making sales because they were released years ago and they're barely releasing anything now. Almost scared me when Chrono Crusade 8 took forever.

The problem is is that not everyone does that, and it's causing problems [and not just domestically]..... the best thing to do is edcuate fans on the negative aspects of fansubbing, and why actually buying what they watch is a good thing.

Tokyopop has the license to the ARIA manga, so while ADV won't finish it, it will get finished :)

As for ADV Manga, while they won't be doing Aria or Peacemaker [which TP also licensed, alongside the just released Tactics], they've already solicited new volumes of Yotsuba& and Gunslinger Girls for this summer, so there's still hope for many hiatused titles.

ADV does indeed have Sgt. Frog [not Funimation, above poster], and I assume are working to get it on TV. Given everythingelse they've announced gets scheduled right away [Red Garden'll be coming out in September- 4 months away people!], I assume it is the case that they're working on something special for Sgt. Frog, and once things settle we'll see a quick and loverly dvd release.

Wait, I thought that 10th anniversary box set was released last year, wasn't it?

It was suppose to, ADV pulled it after they got plenty of complaints from folks who were pissed for shelling out money for the platinum edition only to find out there is a better edition. I bet after the movies making out here we'll see a new edition available.

I imagine "Sgt. Frog" will only appear on their linear Anime Network for promotional and sneak peek purposes, and possibly having full episodes on the V.O.D. service. "Sgt. Frog" is too big of a series for A.D.V. not to make a mainstream broadcasting deal for, they wouldn't have been able to afford to license it otherwise. They've already let go of "Mermaid Melody" because they couldn't get a T.V. deal for it, and "Sgt. Frog" is a much, much more high-profile anime than "Mermaid Melody".

It's pretty much a given that Cartoon Network is vying for it, and that it's a strong possiblity that that's where it'll end up. [adult swim]? There is absolutely no way it'll end up there! I really disagreed with people suggesting that "Naruto" and "One Piece" go to [adult swim], but "Sgt. Frog" is just ridiculous to me. "Sgt. Frog" is almost like the "Spongebob" of Japan; it falls squarely in the 6-11 year-old demographic but it's also hit a soft-spot with other demographics, like teens, adults, and especially otaku. We all know [adult swim] is for, obviously, adults. The only kids' anime that's worked re-versioned for an [adult swim] audience is "Crayon Shin-Chan" (although I consider that more a family show than a kids' show if that makes sense). Even "Detective Conan", with its murder mysteries, didn't do well on [adult swim] because, essentially, it was a kids' show.

A.D.V. has made it clear on more than one occasion that it does indeed have a pilot for "Sgt. Frog" that it's showing to potential broadcasters and negotiating with, so it's a matter of time till we hear something. Maybe it's already been picked up. The announcement will probably be made at something big like AX or SDCC, or perhaps online where A.D.V. originally announed they got the rights. September is actually a good time to debut the show since that's when the new fall T.V. season starts. So I call wait-and-see on this.

Is that an indirect way of them acknowledging they have the rights to the new movies? Or does someone else have them, and they're trying to go for a cross-promotion? I'm surprised no one asked them that.

Why is it that whenever there's an industry fellow saying something that even hints that fansubbers are hurting the industry that there has to be some punk who says "Nuh uhhhhh! Fansubs are goooooood!"

I doesn't matter how many titles you claim to have bought because of fansubs. What matters are the others who didn't buy because of fansubs, and who vastly outnumber you. That is what ADV was referring to.

What also matters are the number of titles you chose not to buy because you felt they were only "so-so". For every series you finish, you better be supporting the industry by buying the DVD. No excuses.

I see... Do you consider me a meanie if I watch the first episode of a series, dislike it and stop watching the series and do not purchase the series.

I do think that it's a silly idea to watch something you think is so-so anyway, not only because you may have a strong desire to purchase it thus supporting the industry, but because there are surely better things to do with your time. You could be watching another anime, or a TV show or film of the non-anime variety, or playing with an animal, or lying in bed, or masturbating/possibly having sex, or making icecream sundaes, or going swimming, or spending time with a friend, or doing charity work, or playing tennis, or various other things

so why bother with the so-so anime?

I'm gonna go and play with the dog.

It's interesting he said Air is fan-centric and probably right on the money, as I think it will only reach a niche group here in the US, but I've been wrong before about these things, so I'm curious to see how Air will do...
