The first two episodes in this volumes were awesome, but I didn't like how the spoiler[crystal hime just brought everyone back to life without giving a logical explanation and how Alyssa's existence as a hime though she was a fake one had an effect on the outcome ]and though the ending was a lighthearted one and I enjoyed Mai's speech about love at the end, the whole thing felt a bit shoddy and uninspired.

Admitting that this anime had been my addiction and obssession for the past months and how painful the waiting was for the next volume to come out shows what an entertaining series this one. Hope -Otome is just as good and handles everything at the end better than this one.

Erm...I think you mean Mikoto, not Midori.

Well, for a series constructed as it was in the middle, I can't see in any way how it would be able to end on a depressing note. spoiler[And it's not like the dead died by any normal means. They just disappeared along with the Child of the person that cared for them.]

Oops! Corrected. (Read through that 4-5 times and never caught that one. . .)

The ending was the worst part for me. I should mention that Mai-Otome while overall not quite as good has a more satisfying ending IMO. Then again I loved the more sci-fi'ish theme in Mai Otome.

spoiler[The dead stay dead and they don't come back to life, everyone doesn't live happily ever after, and relationships are forevor changed. ]

I still see a "Midori" in the part about the Special Edition box...

You know...

spoiler[Only one person of any significance dies. Then there's Midori's cyborg friends. Can't remember which die, but it's obvious in Zwei that Gal is alive. Tomoe doesn't even die from her "fatal" fall. Sergay lives as well.

Everyone does live happily ever after. Nina and Arika are on good terms again. The Slave-controllers help out Mai and Mikoto in the Black Valley. Nagi doesn't at all seem unhappy. Tomoe is as nuts as ever. Akane and Kazuya are the only ones who never get their true happily ever after. Well, at least they're still together.

As for changed relationships. Which ones? If you mean between Midori's people and Windbloom, then I suppose that's a change.]

Not saying that I dislike the endings of either series. I like both of them.

So is the original artbox just crap or something?

Cheap thin cardboard and a shirt. I didn't mind the shirt though. It's black and says "Fuka Academy" on it.

I pretty much agree with what you said. I liked how Otome ended a lot better, even though I didn't like the entire series as much. I still like Otome a lot though, and I'll probably keep liking the entire franchise as long as Sunrise decides to keep going.

The new box is also excellent. When I actually saw the inside of the box, I realized the box greatly exceeded my expectations. I thought the inside was just going to be plain.

I didn't care for the shirt since it lacks any art from the show, much like the free Gecko State shirt that came with Eureka. I like Bandai's older shirts like the Hack and Robin ones that have nice full sized artwork on one side, and text on the other.

I was braced for the worst since I caught wind of the disappointing series ending. I actually thought it was decent although there were a few things that could have made it better. I played the Director's cut of the last episode instead of watching the regular version and almost didn't bother to scan the regular version which does have the little "extra" after the credit like all the other episodes. I didn't notice any missing footage flying through the episode at 32X speed. The main difference I noticed is the credits are supered on the regular version, while the director's cut has the clean versions with credits following.

I have to watch it again but

spoiler[Arika and Nina aren't really friends anymore. They aren't togethor at all in the OVA sequel. Sergey never gets his memory back and as a result he completely forgets about Arika even though he had feelings for her and Arika can't be with him since she had feelings for him too.

Nina and Sergey go off togethor so Nina can try to be with him resulting in both of them disapearing from the OVA sequel.

I can't remember the names but I believe one of the kids die towards the end when Arika and Mashiro were kidnapped by the Oswald? The one arika tried to save.]

What!? Did you watch the ending of the Mai-Otome TV series? And have you been watching Zwei?

spoiler[The only reason they're not together yet in Zwei is because Nina left Windbloom with Sergay. That doesn't mean that they're not friends anymore. She gladly accepted Arika saving her life at the end of the TV series.

And Nina has appeared in EVERY episode of Zwei so far.

And that's death by natural means (fighting). In Mai-HiME, I don't recall anyone other than Alyssa dying in any other way other than just disappearing when a Child dies. Yes, in Otome the dead stay dead, but that would have just been too impossible and depressing to be done in HiME.]

I agree with you there, I really don't see any other way that this series could have ended. Unless spoiler[ leaving off on Mai being alone, broken, and depressed.] Nah, I really don't see it working that way.

Also remember that spoiler[only the precious people who were taken away were the ones who were brought back; Joseph Greer wasn't, and it gave no indication that any of the soldiers who were wiped out in the Fuka-raid were brought back either.] But I will also agree that certain things could've used more explaination.

All in all, I was quite satisfied with the ending Cool

spoiler[It has nothing to do with how they died; but how they came back to life -because the crystal hime broke out of her crystal cage? ]

Just like when Mai spoiler[fought Alyssa and came back when everyone was sure that she died without bothering to explain to the viewers and the creator seemed that he was underestimating the viewers attention span and intelligence when he thought that distracting them with Mai's boobs is gonna get him to dodge the question Rolling Eyes]

This is why though I love the series I won't give it a masterpiece rating; a lot of plotholes that were covered up with fanservice and a cliche/uninspired ending that the creator didn't seem to have spent that much effort on.

spoiler[Wasn't that because of Miyu in that one cavern with all the pillars.]

spoiler[Although it still doesn't really explain anything, wouldn't it be safe to say that she ended far away from Fuka Academy after that attack on the satellite. Then maybe she had to fly the distance back, with or without Kagutsuchi. Whatever.]

I liked the ending to the series, spoiler[especially the showdown in episode 25]. I couldn't really see it ending any other way, as the former part of the series was fun & upbeat, so it wouldn't have really been in keeping with the rest of the show IMO. spoiler[If everyone had stayed dead at the end], I doubt I would have enjoyed the series as much as I have.

Of course there are some aspects of the ending that I didn't like (spoiler[namely, the lack of a true resolution for Shizuru & Natsuki - I'm a ShizNat fangrl, so sue me. Razz], but overall, I found the whole series to be very entertaining, & I'm eagerly looking forward to Mai-Otome.

As for the artbox, it's one of the nicest I've seen for an anime series (on a par with the metal box for GitS:SAC 2nd Gig). Wish more artboxes were of this quality.
