I hate hacks. And being a French hack is even worse.

I lol'd. Saw the other articles about this, but this one just shows how committed the director is to the story & it's characters... OH WAIT.
Why would anyone make an adaption of something if they're going to change everything?

They are detestable, aren't they?
Also, worried ANN might be slipping a little - IGN reported on this story yesterday, and it's not even directly to do with gaming.

This guy is the biggest hack who ever hacked out of Hacktown with a hacksaw. Seriously, look at his friggin' filmography on IMDb if you doubt me. Nothing remotely enjoyable on there. Even Michael Bay would be an upgrade from him.
This is gonna be awful and his callous disregard for the source material is disgusting.

News team reported on this yesterday (it was in the article about concept art), this is an interest feed item specifically about those comments.

Quote: | Yeah. So hopefully in my version that will be strong, and you'll have a story that happens in that world that will show you a little bit of the mystery. Then, if you're interested, they'll make "Akira 2 & 3" then you can get deeper into it. |
See, this is the sort of thing that people will remember when this movie crashes and burns. Shyamalan approached Airbender with the same callousness. This isn't ending well.

My jaw dropped at the "Japanese culture = no strong characters" remark-- that is such an ugly, racist and untrue thing to say!! As if we weren't all worried about the way the film will handle characters' culture and race already.

Maaaaaaaaan, I thought this was gonna crash and burn. But after reading this, it's going to be an outright supernova. Who does this guy think he is?

So on a scale of 1 to Evolution, we are quickly approaching Evolution levels in possible devastation and ignorance to source material.

All of his movies were TERRIBLE. He has to make up something to get people interested at all.

Oh yeah, because why bother making your movie actually about something, when you can just have cool dudes not looking at explosions? That sounds like a great use everyone's time.

Into the trash it goes. I never held out hope for this flick its been in development hell and it looks like they just threw it at the first jabbering turd that slimed on by just to get it out the door so theres not even a remote chance i'll watch it.
I'll just stick with the "boring" source material

What an idiot. Stupidity can be dangerous. How can you create an adaptation of a source material you neither respect nor understand? Does not speak well for a mainstream release of this film. This might be the final nail in the coffin.
Sad face.

nope.jpg...if that's his feeling on the characters, then I'm not even gonna watch the trailer for it, yet alone the movie.
