Anime won an Annie! Everyone can shut up now.

I haven't seen Frozen, but there's no way The Flintstones, er, The Croods, has better character designs than The Wind Rises.

^ I'm sure people will still complain that it's only a consolation prize award (writing) and not the main award (feature).
Spirited Away did win the Best Animated Feature Annie for 2002, though, so anime has taken home the big prize before.

Tenchi: I'm more disappointed that Otomo didn't put in a good word for Kon in his speech. But at least he was brief, unlike the drunk hosts.

Whoa!
At least admit that's your opinion.
Anything in these popularity contests is a collective opinion, not absolute fact.
(I didn't see The Croods. I have very few absolutes in animation besides the realization that there's very little that DreamWorks offers that actually interests me. Ditto for Seth McFarlane and The Simpsons post-Season 10...)
One absolute about Miyazaki films, though --
the character design hasn't changed much over 30+ years!
Even Disney animated features over the years have had more variations in character design.
His girls in Castle of Cagliostro (~1980) look almost exactly like the girls in Nausicaa (1984), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Spirited Away (1997), etc.
This is not just a Miyazaki trait. Osamu Tezuka did the same thing. The characters in Metropolis, Astro Boy, and many of his other works were re-casts. He just kept using the same "actors" again and again throughout his works.

Plenty of things to question if someone wants to. For instance it's surprising Legend of Korra wasn't in some of the categories and that it lost to Adventure Time in the Best animated broadcast for Children's Audience. Then again I guess Korra probably isn't the best show for kids to watch.
That's just me, a shame I should have to say this but better to be safe then sorry.

I attended the ceremony and Miyazaki didn't show up nor did any representative accept the award on his behalf. It was a very unclassy move. The show just continued, maybe they'll ship it to him.

Not exactly the first time he's done that. I doubt he cares about some random American award thing to be honest.

Frozen is basically Tangled 2.0 when it comes to reusing character design, though.
Croods just looks ugly though just by googling what it is. I hate CG in general but it seems like western artists can't really make good looking humans in CG yet. Croods looks all deformed

TTD: Miyazaki's older now, and, as a result, long plane trips are probably a lot for him to handle. Besides, there was no guarantee that The Wind Rises would win anything in the first place. If he's going to show up at all, it'll be for the Oscars. But if he doesn't, I'm hoping they'll at least get him to do a speech on a video feed, if he gets Best Animated Film.

Character Animation, not design.

He doesn't care about Japanese awards neither. He stood up the Emperor royal family for the Person of Cultural Merit, one of the highest honors in Japan.

The Croods are cavemen after all, so you're not wrong. I don't have a problem with Frozen reusing Tangled's designs, they're good solid models and they should be seen again.

Katsuhiro Otomo doesn't watch his finished films? How can you make movies like that?

Mr. Adventure: In Steamboy's case, you can't.

I don't know... directors/artists can be pretty eccentric...
