Do yourself a favor and get ahold of the subbed version of the last episode. I myself was watching the dubbed episodes, simply because I am on dial up, and no other way to get ahold of it. Then I went to a friends house, and got a hold of the rest of the series, however I formed my own conclusions on the ending (the last 5 minutes of the last episode) and I wanted to see how they explained it on the english version, to see if they leaned more towards what I thought happened. So here it comes, the end of the episode, its about to start the last 5 minutes, and bam, ending credits. They literally CUT like 5 minutes from the ending of this episode.

spoiler[Basically, at the end of the subbed version, eureka and renton ended up going to another planet with the scub corals, and after about a year, I think, the kids were with renton's grandfather, and their names were all changed, along with eureka to have thurston as teh last name. They go to look at the moon, or another planet, which had since the events concerning the scub coral splitting the population between two planets, had Eureka + Renton carved into it. Then the grandfather says for renton and eureka to hurry back, and next it shows a lake, or a swamp, and it shows a male and a female, matching the looks of eureka and renton, and the red and blue lights that kept appearing in the last episode representing them. I figured this basically meant that they came back to Earth, but I wanted a little more clarity. In the dubbed version, it ends before all of that, and just ends on a note said by the leader of the Ghekko state. He says something about Renton chose to become a hero, even bigger than his dad, end credits roll, the end. ]

So yeah, basically its just like WTF?

Yes, what the [expletive] hell [AS]? You do NOT cut the end to ANY anime in any way, shape, or form!

Endings are Holy Writ and to tamper with them needs to be a crime punishable by death! [AS] is infidels for cutting the ending of Eureka Seven!

ITs bad enough when they change words like in the japanese they say "im gonna kill you!" and they change it to be something less agressive (or so they think) and say "im gonna destroy you!" But when you literally cut the last 5 minutes of teh show, and change some of the text right before it, its just wrong.

Yeah, no shit.

Why the hell can't [AS] have respect for the fans and stop committing these unjust sins against anime? [AS]'S BLOOD!

It just makes me wonder, because I use to not like the reading, or if I am multitasking and watching dvds or something, I would watch it in english, instead of subtitled. Makes me wonder what else I missed, or what other shows I watched on AS which was totally cut to heck.

That's pretty unconscionable. I thought it looked like something was missing there. I'd watched the subs up through about episode 45 or so, but then there was a hiccough in distribution and I lost track of the series, so I started watching the dub. That's hideous of AS to actually cut the ending off the show though.

and yet they had time to run Oblongs for the ten thousandth time?

Sick.

Well like I said, here's how the ending actually went down on the real version:

spoiler[After Holland talked about renton becoming a hero, Renton and Eureka went to the planet the scub coral, and I guess like half the population (from the way it seemed) went to. The grandfather and the kids were sitting in a resteraunt while his grandfather was reading a piece of paper, naming the kids, with the last name thurston, with the parents named Renton and Eureka Thurston. The eldest of the kids was apologetic if it was a bother, however the grandfather actually seemed proud. They went up to a cliff to look at the moon, which forever had Eureka + Renton carved into it. He then said for Renton to hurry up and come back, as he has some great kids or something to that extent. Then bam, change in scene, you see two flashes of light, one blue, and one red, and it appears to be Eureka and Renton, as if they had just returned from the other planet. Now, that is my take on what it meant, I am not sure if thats exactly what happened there, or if it was the other planet they were still on. That is why I wanted to see how they explained it in the dubbed version, only to find out that they just ended the show with Holland saying Renton was a hero. Nothing else, the last 5 minutes or so, just gone.]

Damn, I thought it seemed like something had been cut out there, as I found it really odd that it would end on a screen flash of "1 year later."

I would also like to know what [as] is playing at by pulling a stunt like that, as I was really looking forward to seeing the "1 year later" part.

Hmmm, may be time to check the [as] boards and see if anyone is talking.

Ah, well thats another thing, they werent translating the japanese. For instance spoiler[on the drive before Renton got into the nervash, it was just flashing japanese text, which in the subbed version I saw, they translated to be Eureka, then when Renton got in, it was flashing Renton, then when they met up, it started flashing Eureka + Renton. ] So I thought thats what it was, that it was a screen saying 1 year later, however they didn't translate it, just the big 1, so I didn't know if they changed that message. Ok, that really is retarded that they would cut out on "1 year later" then cut the last 5 minutes of the episode that showed the 1 year later part.

As a longtime member of the [AS] boards, I can tell you this: There are numerous people ranting at [AS], ripping them apart, cussing them out, and telling them to go fudge themselves for this cardinal sin.

FLCL was aired completely uncut yet [AS] has the utter gall to butcher ep 50 of Eureka Seven.....talk about not-so-nice-people with double-standards.

I thought something was missing from that episode. Damn it, I knew that screen must have said "1 year later" or something like that. Mad

Well, I've been watching Eureka 7 on [adult swim] from the first episode onward, so it's a little late for switching to subs, but I may have to just to see how it ends. (Was the episode's run time longer than usual or did they just screw it up?)

Of course, maybe if more people had been watching on TV, they wouldn't have thought they could get away with this crap.

Anyway, at least the DVDs are all perfectly fine. Broadcast edits are gone and subtitles are available. Not to mention the nice artboxes and extras with those LE editions.

I have never watched Adult Swim, and from what I read on this and other boards, I never will.

Well, gee whiz, I wonder why so few people watch. Could it have something to do with the hour at which they run the show? Or they way they've arbitrarily switched time slots? Or the quality of the dub?

"Hey, we've bought this show called Eureka Seven but we don't like it, so we'll make sure nobody else likes it either by making it as hard to see and as badly presented as possible. Then, just for kicks, we'll cut off the ending."

These aren't the kind of people from whom I would want to get anime.

No, the runtime was the same; the OP and ED were eliminated in this episode, so it's all on [as]' collective head. Luckily, I saw this on the Fix the night before. Once I saw that the OP and ED were dropped for additional show time, I figured something unpleasant was bound to happen. I knew there was no way in hell that the commercials would go. I really didn't expect them to do anything about it, though a tiny part of me hoped that Champloo might've been pre-empted a bit, since it's not like this is its first time around the block.

Anyways, Nebs has a good explaination to all this madness in this post.

Now, now, if the dub wasn't your cup of tea, this would happen to be one of the few things that wasn't [as]' fault. All complaints would have to directed to (I believe) Bang Zoom! and, to an extent, Bandai itself.

Yeah, the hours they show things suck. If I recall correctly, they tried airing things earlier a long while back and the ratings were even worse.

arkady wrote:

Not that it's that difficult to find out the new one but sure, that's an annoyance too.

arkady wrote:

I don't think [adult swim] has much if anything to do with the dub. I think Bandai makes those decisions since they licensed the show.

Obviously I must also like the English dub considering that I've been watching it weekly for a very long time now, so complaints on that front don't strike me as particularly valid.

arkady wrote:

I'm not too fond of them either, but my choices are [adult swim], DVDs, or fansubs; I prefer dubs and I have the patience to wait for new episodes to air but not for new DVD volumes to come out so I've been watching on [adult swim]. I'd much rather watch Eureka 7 strictly on DVD, but they release too slowly. (I'll be buying it all eventually, but not right now.)

And the people at [adult swim] may be mostly jerks, but having the show on TV usually increases the DVD sales numbers, which is good for the company that licensed the show, good for the original creators, and good for anime fandom in general since more money = more licenses.

NGE1113: Thanks for the link. That explained a lot. For the life of me, I'll never understand why the can't just drop a few of their commercials for their own programs so they have more show time. (I can understand keeping advertiser's commercials, but couldn't they drop a few Saul of the Molemen ads?)

If you wanna see the last bit, look up the last episode on youtube ( I hate having to resort to this, stupid AS)

I was searching through some forums and found this.
It's something even the fansub people didn't get. The fansubs seemed to skip it, but this was in the raw version. This definitely clears up the last bit of the ending. It's 100% clear after you see this :

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/4408/lastframe3gmdy6.jpg (spoilers naturally) It's a little illustration that appeared after the 10 years later scene which makes it obvious that spoiler[Renton and Eureka came back, and were just off exploring (?) for a year]

Anyways, I absolutely loved the ending. Hands down, my favorite anime ever. Everything I've ever loved in an anime was present here in some way. Shows like E7 are the reason why I watch anime.

edit: So anyone wondering if AS will show a new anime next week? Or just return to FMA or Lupin reruns for a while or something?? Didn't they plan to show Witchblade eventually? Maybe next week.
