Why stop at Berserk? I think what we all really want to know is what they'd make of Kodomo no Jikan and Kis x Sis Twisted Evil

The pornographic La Blue Girl Returns (pictured left) is mentioned. Blatch says, "The characters were presented more or less as children... We didn't really have anywhere to go with that except to think this potentially encouraged an interest in underage sex." (The series was heavily cut for an 18-rated U.K. DVD.)

Yet who out of Japan the and UK has the highest teenage pregnancy???

Yes, we can clearly see the result of that.
Teenagers in Japan are not very interessted in sex at all compared to other parts of the world.

We can all safely draw the concllusion that this isn't a problem at all, so you can't pretend that anime is harmful. Rolling Eyes

I seem to recall, somewhere in the SMC book I think, that Jonathan Clements talked to someone at the BBFC about the whole " encouraging an interest in underage sex" thing and was introduced to the concept of grooming for the first time. If you have a searchable digital copy I believe the word "nonce" came up in the article.

I do find some of thier ratings a little bizzar at times. Why is a series like Tokko a 15 when Deadman Wonderland is an 18. I feel that horror films rated 15 have much worse language/gore etc. than an anime rated 18; I don't really get it... But it doesn't really effect my life so I can't complain. Laughing

This is at least one of the quotes I was thinking of:
Quote:
It was initially a shock to me, some ten years ago, when I heard the BBFC ruling that Overfiend IV might be used “by pedophiles to entice children”. The concept of ‘grooming’ wasn’t one I’d ever heard before. Whatever you may think of the censor, movies are classified for a reason. There are things that we would really prefer children not to see.

[...]

It’s why you really, really do not want some nonce showing hentai pictures to children and using that as a means to convince them that what they see is normal, acceptable, and indeed encouraged.

The Berserk TV anime was passed uncut with an 18 rating, the first Berserk film was passed uncut with a 15 rating and the second Berserk film was passed uncut with an 18 rating. I have no idea what they'll make of the new one, however, considering that they were planning to show it at a film festival then didn't because they thought it might be "too extreme/graphic/something like that", however that doesn't necessarily mean they won't release it on DVD - it was an anime specific film festival screening programme so maybe the logic was that there would be people who'd come to see it not knowing what they were getting into?
