Tobey is in the process of making a movie based off of the book Tokyo Suckerpunch which seems pretty cool (never read it, but have seen it).
Quote: | Spider-Man 3 star Tobey Maguire has been speaking to SCI FI Wire about his work on Isaac Adamson’s Tokyo Suckerpunch.
Maguire will star in and produce the project which is about a Cleveland manga writer who finds himself living out his character’s adventures in Tokyo. ‘It’s something I’m developing with Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher’s company [Red Wagon], and Ed Solomon’s [Charlie’s Angels] writing the screenplay right now,’ Maguire said during a news conference to promote Spider-Man 3.
In the original story, Billy Chaka is in Tokyo to cover the Under-19 Handicapped World Martial Arts Championship and meet with his friend Sato Migusho, the renowned director of cult film classics like Sex-Up the Hotrod, Baby!. wHEN Sato never shows, a woman stumbles into a dive bar with tattooed yakuza in hot pursuit. Then Chaka discovers that Sato has been murdered, and the strange and beautiful woman just may have been a witness. As the mystery deepens, Billy start brawls in swanky corporate sex clubs, is offered a golf membership by a secret religious order, meets a dog trained in the Way of the Samurai and races stolen motorcycles through the neon-choked streets of Tokyo. |
What do you guys think about Tobey as Chaka, the manga writer in this story?
I've never read it but it seems like a cool idea to play someone living his own stories, and if they throw in some little "anime" clips in it that would be even better. (PROVED BY KILL BILL vol. 1 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

It does sound quiet interesting, but not so sure till you've actually seen it. Anyways to me Tobey Maguire will always be the dude in tights that swings from buildings and enforces the law.

Erm is he supposed to play a Japanese guy? I mean Chaka's a Japanese last name, right? Cause he doesn't look Japanese at all..
Sounds interesting though..

I don't know why, but it seems just so very fitting to hear you in particular imitate Jameson! Maybe it's the avatar?

Yeah that does look a bit like Jameson. I wonder if Abunai looked like his avatar in real life..

Fixed for relevance.
Anyhoo, Is this Live-Action or VA? if the latter, then okay, I kinda like the idea. But if Live Action....The guy went completely downhill after Spiderman 2. His actign ability went sour.

Well, I haven't really seen anything he's done since Spiderman 2, but if this is true, first of all, let's hope he isn't terrible in Spidey 3. Second of all, yeah, I'd hope he does it animated.

ya he enforces the law in his own spidy-tacular way " a way that little kids and child-like adults enjoy.
The little kids and child-like adults would say "YEAH GO KICK THAT UGLY DUDE'S ARSE AND SPRAY YOUR WHITE STICKY STUFF ON HIM"

I could definitely see Tobey as a manga character, seeing as his mouth doesn't move when he talks.
Wait, a manga writer... actually, this does sound cool.
