(Who's gonna tell him? No one? Fine, I'll say it.) Yeah, the number of pantyshots in Girls und Panzer is zero. Zero. Honestly, most of what I see from people who hate fanservice anime is just cutting down shows they don't like, to the point where I really wonder what kind of anime these people like. Here's the thing that needs to start happening, though, if these folks actually want more anime they enjoy: Find what you like and support the hell out of it. That's really the only way. Cutting down shows you don't like might feel good, but in the end, it doesn't get you closer to more shows you like. |

Thanks for that. I hadn't seen it. That's pretty funny. I don't normally go for questions like this, but I had to turn in the column early this week, so I didn't have many submissions to choose from. |

haters will always hate. They would make up stuffs to justify their hate. There is nothing we can do about it. I feel like the best way to counter those people is to not response at all and buy the anime. In this world money speaks louder than word. |

Looks like someone fell prey to that fallacy of assuming what got released in the past was completely representative of overall quality, while what's available now is actually much closer to the full spectrum. Sturgeon's Law is very much in effect - the corollary of which means ~5% is good stuff after all, just have to look for it as Justin said.
Although, it's not like there was ever really an idyllic time when only high-quality, high-minded anime was made, let alone released here. Justin's Buried Garbage columns and most of CPM's catalog can attest to that... |

I also hadn't seen Girls und Panzer yet, but nothing in the promotional material I've seen suggested it was like that at all. Very odd choice on the part of whoever sent in the question. But yeah, it all really comes down to funding. As has been pointed out over and over, these companies are trying to make profits, so they make what sells. The only real way to shift which trend gets followed is to support the stuff you like. And if nothing else, at least fanservicey stuff provides money for deeper and/or more adventurous content. After all, if the money dried up entirely, you can bet we'd see the less profitable shows get the axe first. And Justin is exactly right, the stuff that someone like Jeff or whoever else is looking for is still getting made if you look for it. I've seen the whole "insert trend here" is ruining anime for the rest of us argument in all sorts of incarnations over the years, and yet different shows still get made all the time. Somehow, season after season, I still find something to watch. |

Indeed, the creators specifically had a hard limit of "no panty shots". They even edited an episode when an unscrupulous animator tried to sneak one in. |

"Success is the best revenge." Honestly, in the long term, that's really the way to go. If things continue the way they are, the stuff these people hate will continue making money, and the stuff these people like will never break out, and they will have nobody to blame but themselves because they spent all their time complaining about how little media is created for them, rather than supporting the living hell out of what media does get created for them, in an effort to show that there are people to sell that media to. This is entitlement, pure and simple. |

Funny thing about Girls und Panzer is that the director actually went out of his way to say there were no panty shots before the show even aired.

That just seems like such an odd choice for the person to use in the Answerman question. |

Sorry I just read the article but he's right their is zero panty-shots, none what so ever hell I can think of any real fans service scenes other than a few girls a small number being kind of big in the chest but not to the degree of defying the laws human anatomy of highschool girls.
Maybe the poster was just lumping it together with Strike Witches, he should actually see the show before complaining about something he was completely wrong about. And Freezing is not about torture porn as he put it. Yes the anime is not as good as the manga or well drawn but when a person is cut clothes do get cut along with flesh duh. When you have a show with girls battling with bladed weapons it ain't going to be pretty when they are cut at least it wasn't actual gore like other shows. |

Couldn't agree more. I've never understood the whole 'Stop liking what I don't like' thing. And the moral panic over the state of the anime industry always drives me crazy. There is a segment of the Fandom that seems to thing that anime used to be this great thing but now it's gone all "nonsensical pedophilic panty-shot" and "borderline slaughter-porn". But anime has always had it's gratuitous sex and excessive violence, it's just that people remember the good stuff and forget the bad. I mean, have you seen any old OVA or movie? It doesn't matter which one, since they all have at least one gratuitous shot of the heroine's tits it them. Hell, even Urusei Yatsura (1981) managed to show nearly everyone's boobs at least once. What about Sorcerer Hunters (1995), with their Nazi-themed stripper battle costumes? What about Those Who Hunt Elves (1996), which got a second season to continue it's barrage of sexual assault? What about stupid OVAs like Outlanders (1986) or Jungle de Ikou (1997) or Eiken (2003), the worst anime ever made? I could go on, but my point here is that anime isn't progressively getting worse over time and we aren't doomed to a dystopian future because people buy boob shows. Think of it this way -- those boob shows give the studios the money they need to make things like House of Five Leaves and Sakamichi no Apollon and the like, you know, the good stuff. |

Hope that Garupan dumbass reads the forums, he needs to see just how much of a fraud he is. Put that bitch on BLAST
Honestly, I wish anime that already have tons of violence to just go all the way. Few actually get "violent". |

Oh Freezing delivers. You can't really fault it on that point.
Or they hold up the terrible as "classic". Such as, for example, Ninja Scroll. [Edit: Don't double post, use the Edit button instead. ~Zalis] |

Definitely noticed this for the few Fathom Events anime I've seen. The colors just seemed wrong. Also, I goddamn love mindless ecchi dreck. I can watch it forever, and then immediately turn switch to something like Onii-sama e... or the Snow Queen. I just hate people who have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to what kind of anime are being produced. They pick a few shows to hate on and completely ignore the existence of other ones to support their own biased and wrong opinions. "Everything this season is boob show shit" means that they don't even attempt to learn about what's airing. Last edited by walw6pK4Alo on Fri Nov 29, 2013 11:49 pm; edited 1 time in total |
