so i finally got to see this, and i have admit this movie was incredible. i didn't think Satoshi Kon would be able to top himself again, but this is honestly the best thing he has ever made, possibly even one of the best anime movies made to date. unlike his previous works, it seems like he took more of a chaotic approach to it. the whole movie's basically what Mindgame would be if it had a bigger budget, and an more coherent plot. the only slight complaint i had is the soundtrack was kind of lacking. it seemed like he used the same 3 or 4 music pieces throughout the entire movie. it's great music though
is it possible this could get nominated for an Oscar next year? i mean it wasn't really in distribution at the time, so it seems like it should get a second chance. it would win for sure. Last edited by v1cious on Fri Apr 20, 2007 7:17 pm; edited 2 times in total |

It qualify last year and therefore shouldn't be possible for it to be nominated by the members of the academy. Like you noted Paprika was amazing, one thing about Kon is you have an idea on what kind of movie your going to get and yet he still manages to blow you away. There was several scenes that were really amazing, and one thing that was over top amazing, the music. That main theme is so sweet I love how there's even a lounge/bar version of that song. There's very few times I go into a movie very excited about the film and come out of it feeling that it went over and beyond what you expected. Kon certainly has the makings to take over the industry once Hayao out of the picture, I can't really think of anyone more fitting then him. |

I have not seen it yet, but I am a huge Satoshi Kon fan. If it is anything like his other works, I am sure it will be an amazing ride. In regards to being nominated for an Oscar......very possible. However, I think it will be a long long time before an anime ever wins. I think the commitee will see to that. There have been quite a few Oscar worthy animes, but alas the little gold guy has yet to go home with any of them.

Oh yeah, I must have had a brain fart. Well I still think for the most part, it doesn't usually get a fair shake. |

animenewsnetwork.com/news/2006-11-21/paprika-screening-in-la-this-week It tried last year and no one from the Academy saw it so basically it didn't get nominated. And it's not like it matter anyways after Penguins beat out James everyone knew who was going to win.
True but the academy likes to pick movies that use jokes that won't make any sense in 10 years, unlike some of the Disney Classic that are timeless......god I am sounding more like Gatsu every moment, someone help me. |
