I dont know if anyone else has been following the new Digimon series.....
Its aimed at an older audiance and has more serious artwork then all the previous four seasons.
Which makes sence, because the people who loved Digimon when the first seasons where popular have grown up now. So its still pretty much being aimed at the same people.
ANYWAYS. It is soo very good. There seems to be little love going around for Digimon. Its such a shame. I just recently got to the end of this series, and it blew me away.
Okay, so while all the previous seasons did have emotional moments and some amount of depth, it was depth designed to be easily understood by kids, so it was literally about as deep as a kiddy pool. Digimon Savers is more matured. Obviously Im not about to compair it to something like Full Metal Alchemist, but its a really great show that has alot more depth then the previous seasons, and I think its a shame that its getting passed up simply because its another installment in the Digimon franchise.
I particularily found the flashback to spoiler[Toumas mother being hit by a car very meaningfull, epscially the bit where older Touma tries to stand in the way of the car but the car passes right through him, since he isnt really there.]
Also the scenes with spoiler[Yukidaromon dying where rather heart renching, especially younge Ikuto's reactions.] The characters are alot more well developed in this season then any of the previous ones.
Anyways, I wanted to talk about it, since Im rather obsessed with it at the moment. Before you call me a loser for liking a show as silly as Digimon, let me just say that I am and probably always will be, a huge fan of the entire Digimon franchise. This newest installment, Digimon Savers, is probably the best one so far, in my opinion.

I've been getting through it slowly. Wink

I agree, Savers has been quite good. I was originally expecting just another average Digimon series (which I wouldn't have minded) but this was a surprise. I was a little disappointed to see Agumon again, but that's a minor complaint.

While it's not as good as the first season it still does a great job at entertaining and, like you mentioned, it has a more 'mature' feel to it. I'm slightly behind due to a massive amount of school work but I'm hoping to get caught up soon. Hopefully then I can discuss more Anime smile + sweatdrop

Savers has been under the radar, but I think Digimon in general has always been quite popular. It seems to have attracted a slightly older fan base then Pokemon and I've noticed some really awesome fansites out there. When I started watching the first season I fell in love with Digimon. I still get a kick out of watching the dub when it comes on Jetix (or whatever it is) and nothing would make me happier then to see a new R1 release of the first two seasons.

I love Digimon, so far Savers has'nt caught on to me yet,but I do agree with you that it gets better in later episodes.

I loved the first 3 seasons Digimon Adventure 1, Digimon Adventure 2 Zero, and Digimon tamers

Digimon Adventure 01, the one with Tai,Matt,Sora,Izzy,Joe,Tk and Mimi was my second fav, because it had multiple arcs such as the Devimon, myotismon and the darkmasters arc.

Digimon adventure 02 zero, the one with Davis,Yolei,Ken,Cody, older Kairi and older Tk was ok,but it had the worst climax ending and more lame jokes and puns, I mean come on, could they have spoiler[comed up with a better way to defeat Malo Myotismon than having those kids tell each other they're dreams on what they want to be when they grow up,while he dies desentegrating like that.]

Digimon tamersthe one with Takato,Henry, and Rika was my most fav season, because it was so much darker in tone (even darker than saver), I mean sure savers gets darker later, but Tamers contained alot of disturbing content which was influinced by Evangelion spoiler[such as Jeri getting possesed by the D-reaper and Jeri watching Leomon die in horror by Beezlemon], and the quality script writing improved from the first 2 seasons with actual dramatic talk and far less lame jokes and horrible puns and actually discussing real topics about death.

Digimon frontier (4th season), the one with Takuya,JP,Zoey,Tommy,Koji and Koichii down right sucked in my opinion, it killed the traditional digimon format by taking away the digimon partners and having the next generation digidestians Henshin transform into digimon based on the 10 ledgendary warrior digimon, but I gotta adment, I did like they're final battle with Lucemon

and as for savers, for good starters, I pretty much like these new mature character designs ditching the semi-chibi animation, Masaru is cool, Yoshino is a total hottie, and Toma is bishounen, but some of the digimon designs are way off, the aguemon in this is way bigger than the aguemon from season 01, and the story is kind of like Power Rangers SPD meets ghost in the shell or something, because the whole idea of a crime police unit Deka force called DATS solving digimon crimes was kind of weird at first, but it's grown on to me. Very Happy [/b]

I really liked Digimon, but that was back when I was like 12. Idunno, Id like to give it a chance but inorder for me to watch this It would have to be quite a bit of a step up in maturity from previous Digimon.

I might give it a chance if: 1) Its at least more aimed at teenagers (even younger ones). If its basically just the same old kids show but with the odd deeper concept I'll pass. 2) If the characters are not all young kids. Thats just gonna be annoying so No. 3) If it not as formulaic as the old series. You know, how 1 by 1, each episode a characters Digimon Digivolves, then theres an episode where something happens and theyre in a different situation, and they repeat the process (or at least theres an episode centered around each character.)

If any helpful person could tell me if these are the case Id be very appreciative.

Ooh, I didn't know they were planning to produce another series...
COOLNESS!!!

Digimon is so cool... I don't know, but though it really isn't that aimed toward my age group(teens), I really like the show...

Well, my fave series is the first Digimon, Digimon Adventures... I love Yamato and Mimi...

And hell yeah, I like Kouji Wada's Butter-fly, it's really catchy...
(unfortunately i lost my cd soundtrack and i cant find the song on the net...)

I hope it's a success like the other series...

So gonna watch this since I'm an avid fan of both the series and the game...

BTW, I really like Angewomon(i forgot the spelling)... and the digimon of Rika?

Your in luck! As I said before, it is aimed at an older audiance, probably mid to late teens. The artwork is also more typical anime styled, instead of the simplified "small childre anime" style.
Its defonatly alot more mature then the past seasons. Also, the kids are all alot older, and theres a bunch fo adult "digidestined" as well! And of course, the first couple episodes or so are a tad formulaic, but thats only for about.. say, five episodes or so so you can get used to the characters, and then after that, get ready for a whirlwind ride!

Yep, its only just finished airing in Japan. Currently its only available in North American through fansubs >_>
The big question is if they are actually going to dub it. There are rumors going around that they are, but its not certain.

I loved those seasons too. While I think Savers is the best in so far as artwork, plotline, and character development, Adventure is still my favourite, if only for nostalgias sake. :/
Anyways I think your right in that Frontier was the worst one... I still enjoyed it, mind you, but id had alot of problems. Mainly I didn't like the fact that spoiler[only Takuya and Koji ever got to do anything in the later episodes. I would find myself begging the screen when the evolution began, "PLEASE! PLEASE let Izumi, Tomoki, and Junpie evolve this time! PLEASE not just Takuya and Koji again!! Anime cry"]

cool, thanks. Maybe I will check this out. I'll probly get the Fansub. Even if it does get Dubbed I could see it being one of those botched 4Kids Dubs.

Im probably the only digimon lover in pg county....probably all of maryland so im glad to see a thread like this!

Savers i didn't get a chance to watch since i dont have my own comp but the first ep was...okay. when i found out the plot i wasnt impressed but eru's enthusiasum (cant spell) and the good in change makes me want to put some effort into watching.

I loved season 1 and 2 mostly because of its continuity into one big episode series.

seasons 3 dive into drama and its REAL real world setting was great

season fours departure from the forumla of digimon with human was a bit upsetting but a decent watch nontheless.

i was waiting for a verification that savers wasnt a waste and this is it! thank eru-san.

Well the plot picks up pace later on. You have to watch far enough into it, at least into the Ikuto arc, before you really know what the plot is. The whole thing is not "secret Digimon agents fight the randomly appearing Digimon"

There is now an English site for Savers by Toei. They refer to it as "Digimon Data Squad".

(Site is flash so you'll have to navigate around yourself)

Yes, Iv seen it. We are debating on the Digimon forum weather it actually means anything. But the changes they appear to have made seem... well, okay. Touma is having his name changed to Thomas, which was predictable, but Digimon Data Squad is a terrible name. Also calling the two DATS girls the "Miniskirt Police" is not only incredibly stupid sounding, its sexist and I find it somewhat offensive, and it also does not make sence, since... they dont wear miniskirts... and they are not police >_>
But there is not officiall announcement for it being dubbed, so it might not mean anything, and the names on there may still be tentative.

This could be something like those fliers that were given out for shows like Haruhi and The Third before the license was announced, or the enokifilms site that advertise properties by names that are not necessarily used when the shows are eventually licensed.

God, stupid name changes like this make me not even want to bother with the dub version in the future.

I haven't seen Savers yet, but I'm so happy that they're making the Digimon franchise more mature...It seems like the main characters have been getting younger and younger with each new series - I wouldn't have been surprised if the new series ended up with a cast of kindergarteners. Confused

I enjoyed seasons 1-3, but after season two, I began to lose interest. Still, I'm looking forward to this new season.
