What happen to the girl was horrible and my heart goes out to her parents/families of that girl.
But now they're labeling him as Otaku and blaming his otaku habit for killing that girl. This is media sensationalism and scapegoating, this is no different from FOX News blaming video game for a school shooting/massacre. This is getting out of control, and jumping to a wrong conclusion. For me, this is going to get worse, the guys is a half-Japanese, I don't want the media blaming his non-Japanese heritage for playing a role in the murder.

Reading the last couple of paragraphs it seems that him being an 'otaku' has NOTHING to do with him killing this girl. Why did that even need to be mentioned? He was just a guy who was mad at his ex girlfriend for ditching him while he was over seas. Simple. No need for labels. That's the problem with today's society. Why can't we just be people? We have to have labels associated with us or it doesn't matter.
I feel so sorry for this girl. What a horrible way to die.

This is usual with retard media.
In this poor girl's case, I can see the the usual pattern of the girl wanting to date the "bad" guy(leaving aside the otaku claims, he kind of gives the bad boy vibe) in hopes for a wild ride, in her case, she did so quite literally and it was too late by the time she realized the psychopath she hooked up with. RIP.

my condolences to the girl's family, this is a seriously horrible thing to have happened, but do we REALLY need to make another OTAKU ARE EVIL MURDERERS bit?

Why is it always something not mainstream getting blamed for murders? Why can't we have a story like this?
Quote: | A man stabbed a woman to death in her apartment last Tuesday. According to witnesses, the man was addicted to pizza; he would go to Pizza Hut several times a week and had a Pizza Lovers Discount Card. It is clear that pizza is to blame for these killings. |

yeah umm reading the last part doesn't really validate the headline, more like "Vindicated Ex boyfriend murders his ex after stalking her for several days"

It's one thing if he's an otaku, but I hope they don't go after him for being a hapa.

I feel really bad for that girl. As for the guy I say hang him. Although from what I have gathered being an Otaku had nothing to do with it. Sounds to me that the whole Otaku bit was nothing more then the media trying to find a bigger scapegoat. Although Otaku are a big part of modern Japanese culture there are still many circles that don't like them. I guess the media is one of those circles.

It only takes one, or two bad apples to spoil the entire harvest. This case makes , what? Four now? Sadly society always seems to grab the broadest brush to tar and feather with. If it were my daughter I'd want the death penalty, but he'll probably get life in prison. My condolences to the surviving family and friends.

The media finds anything and everything newsworthy, so it's not worth worrying about what the media thinks about a murderer who happens to be an otaku. If he was a furry, the furry community would be up in arms. If he was a survivalist, the media would focus on that.

So the guy clearly had anger issues, was furious that his girlfriend broke up with him, and went nuts that she tried to protect herself from him and killed her? Seems pretty straightforward.
Oh wait, he was into anime, we just HAVE to report that! But hey, why stop there with the offensive and unnecessary focus on something that was irrelevant to the situation? He was also Japanese, we should put some emphasis on that. Oh, and of course a male was the one who was the killer, we should focus some more on that. Anymore unnecessary offensive implications we should make? Did he enjoy eating at a particular restaurant, maybe we should imply there's something disturbing about people who frequent that place.
Seriously, I'm sick of this. Newsflash: EVERYONE has the capacity for murder. So by news channels' logic I guess we should just paranoid about every human being ever. Don't even trust your brand new baby, he/she could pull a Maggie Simpson and shoot you! Really none of us should feel safe ever no matter where we are. As The Daily Show mocked: IT COULD HAPPEN HERE!

Being Japanese in Japan is not a cause for alarm... The fact that he's half another culture, however, is something that can be stigma-d. Before he was caught, he was described as a pure foreigner.

Yes as I mention on my first post, that's what I get worried about. Not only him being a otaku, but also a half-foreigner. I don't want to see this becoming a scapegoat and open season on anyone that is not 100% pure Japanese.
