For anime, there is very little and almost all of it is from 4kids releases.

Sadly, its much more frequent for manga. See this forum on AoD and The Edited Manga List thread for all the info you could want.

Also, check out Wikipedia's page on
4 Kids which explains how they edited anime series.

Actually this is your second post here, the last time you posted though was two years ago when it seems you were also doing "research."

But never mind that, I would actually give you a suggestion similar the the the first repy you got a couple years ago, try Google. I mean research should be about actually looking, or 'researching,' not just asking people to look for you. In any case, I did do the Google search for you, using your own words by the way, it looks like it may help, just click on the link.

As I said before, censorship is most apparent in 4kids productions which often appear on daytime television.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4Kids_Entertainment

A few scrolls down you will see a list of current and past 4Kids productions, as well as shows that are currently on hiatus.

Edit: Sorry, just read a few posts up and realized this page was already posted.

For anime, aside from 4Kids anime, Rahxephon had an edited portion in episode 5. A music box played "Happy Birthday" in the original version, but it was edited and turned into a generic tune for licensing reasons. It was also edited in the Japanese audio of the R1 DVD.

The Super Milk-Chan Show was Americanized, but I haven't seen it, so I wouldn't know about the specifics.

For manga, pretty much all Shonen Jump releases have been edited to remove bad language. Fullmetal Alchemist has a scene in which a character that was supposed to crucified on a cross is hanging on a typical stone slab instead. This was more than likely done so that Christians would not be offended. Most manga edits come from Viz, since their series appeal to a wider range of people than they'd expected.

The DVD release came with 2 disc, one with the adaption of the Japanese version, which aired on Adult Swim, and the Americanized version, which had a more American based humour with skits performed by the voice actors.

I don't remember if the Japanese version was censored on AS was censored, but the Americanized verison wasn't, it only had different dialogue.

Crying Freeman was licensed to VIz and then Tokyopop. It has lots of naked scenes and rape and stuff, but they left that in there but edited the pictures. But the pictures of how it was edited is different from Viz and Darkhorse. Also, I read somewhere on the net that Crying Freeman was also edited for their Japanese release, but I don't know where that information is Anime hyper sorry it was a while ago.

Yeah, definitely way more editing in Manga than Anime.

Possibly largely because its much easier to edit images in Manga than something actually animated.

After reading the review, Beet the Vandel Buster seems like a prime example(outside of anything 4kids puts out) of editing in anime. Replacing the original soundtrack, opening, and ending, and adding dialogue, among other things. It doesn't help that the show sucked already...

I know alot of folks don't have access to the $$$ to get all of this stuff on DVD, but the way that Anime Network and Cartoon Network butcher their programming makes me shudder with rage sometimes. Butchered intros and endings, changed music, random content edits, poor dubbing . . .
Where does it end? Seriously, I feel really bad for anyone who's completely dependent on network television for their anime fix. And I thought that Tranzor Z and Macron I were bad back in the day . . .

Well, I can understand shortened intros and endings. After all, they have to get the commercials in at some point and it's easier to cut short the the op/eds. BUT, Cartoon Network doesn't change the music, edit the contents (usually) nor do they do the dubbing. All of that is done by the American company that has licensed the series.

Completely side-tracked, but I think I remember the Americanized version running on [as]. I had a friend introduce me to the series via fansub and I thought "This is garbage" but I caught it on [as] one night and there were a few jokes that made me laugh (especially the one about the Kochikame DVD set).

Back on topic, to the OP, are you only limiting the scope of your research for the past couple of years? If so, you might want to do a comparison between manga and their anime counterparts but also keep in mind that they may be done under different publishers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Editing_of_anime_in_American_distribution

Censorship regarding anime is when a certain company takes an anime and edits it to make it more fitting for the American audiance (mostly children). The biggest company known for this kind of censorship is 4kids. Now I don't usually care about whether an anime, censored or not, is good or bad. As long as the show is cool and the voice acting if great, I don't need to worry. The only anime I'm not happy with being editted is One Piece since it had heavy censorship thanks to Al Kahn and his co-hords for slaughtering the show. Evil or Very Mad

One of the first anime to have censorship was DBZ. It's bloody violence and toilet humor were editted out to make it more kid-friendly. And some drug references were also deleted.

Also, [adult swim] usually doesn't put kid-friendly censors on shows but they do put some censorship on some shows like Fullmetal Alchemist and it's
spoiler[brain-explosion scene from Episode 13]. GITS's Jungle Cruise was also editted because it was too graphic for TV (which I don't usually get, BTW since I can handle blood and gore).

{Semi-OT: Similar editting also happened to some non-anime like the Spiderman cartoon which Fox censored because certain shows like Power Rangers have been accused of being too violent.}

I can see why the GitS thing would be censored; that episode nearly made me throw up because it was so disturbing. But the FMA thing? It wasn't even that graphic. All you saw was spoiler[the guy struggling and then going limp when the sillhouetted blood squirted out of his skull.]

...Wait, maybe it should have been censored....
