Thanks To AOD forum poster Funkatron for this informetion:

Quote:
From a TZ poster at the recent NY Comicon

I went to the Chaotic booth at ComicCon and asked about One Piece. 4Kids no longer has the rights and apparently the license has now defaulted to either Viz or Bandai (there was some confusion). The people at the booth were actually pretty nice and felt bad that OP fans weren't getting uncuts already. They also didn't think 4Kids even owned the tapes of the original Japanese episodes, so either Al Kahn is a bigger xenophobe than we thought or a subbed version couldn't legally happen in the first place.

This upcoming con season is gonna be pretty interesting once everything clears up.

Shocked This ROCKS! Anime hyper I'am betting it's Viz,what with there ties to Shueisha and all, also to I hered many months ago Viz and Toei had some deal('though I haven't lot to back that up)but it's Viz and Toei were talking about we have to expect some headaches. 4kids+no Japanese audio=sad
Anime cry

If Viz DOES get it, then that's one more stumbling block down towards getting US access for Jump games like Jump Ultimate Stars and Battle Stadium DON. Now the only hold-up would be Funi.

Color me confused, but if 4Kids no longer holds the rights, and since there are no other dubbed verison of One Piece, why is still being aired on Cartoon Network Saturday's at 8:30? If they no longer hold the rights, won't CN get in to alot of trouble with Toei for airing a adaptation of a show that a company no longer holds the rights to? Last real word was they weren't going to renew, but still hold it till 2009.

Cartoon network could have contract that would let them run the show for certain time period and that period just hasn't run out yet.

But God only knows, this sounds like it's going to be a huge mess, because didn't Toei open up a U.S. office too?

Before you get all worked up into a lather, this looks a lot more like 'convention rumor' than 'actual fact'. I'd suggest taking this tidbit with a large grain of salt until someone in a position of authority at one of the companies in question makes a formal announcement.

What problem could Toei Animation's U.S.A. sales office have? They have subsidiaries all over the world, and it's just a way to outreach their business globally.

Now I could be wrong about this but I believe it works like this. That the Tv rights are completely separate, meaning CN would have to air the reaming eps. that they licensed or CN might get in trouble. Also in all likely hood the Tv rights that 4Kids sighed with CN would carry over to which ever compeny has OP. Which may be (depening on how long ago 4Kids lost or sold the rights) one of reason it hasn't been announced by the new licensed holder.

I agree with you. Until it appears on the front page here on ANN, I'm going to take it with an EXTRA-large grain of salt.

But, for you One Piece fans, I hope that you get your wish...as long as you wish that Sailor Moon Sailor Stars is released as well! Wink

It's no rumor 4kids does not have any plans on dubbing anymore One Piece. As for if another company may buy the rights.......wait and see. As for 4kids though, no more One Piece from them. Unless they decide to go back and change their minds and contradict themselves.

Confirmation of psycho's claim. This lead to a very long discussion thread in the talkback forums a while back, and probably beyond that if I remember correctly. A lot of people here were very happy that 4kids are not making anymore episodes of One Piece, seeing as how the show was just ravaged by their editing, and I was one of those who rejoiced.

I just thought of something....can you imagine the freakin rants from 4krap if he was still here on it? Good lord he'd probably never shut up over it and his happiness. We'd hear about it for months. I am happy myself though cause the dub was simply horrible.

Funny thing was that a lot of people came to believe in God the day that 4kids lost One Piece Laughing

From what I heard, they';re suppose to give up the license in 2009 or something like that.

apparently, the U.K has already released these episodes of all the alabaster arc which is why cartoon network is still airing the dubbed episodes.

They have the problem of working the US and world markets like they're the same as the Japanese market, when they are like chalk and cheese. T'is one of the basic reasons they do so well in the world. Wink

I think "One Piece" is now licensed by "TOONAMI"(CN)!
