Too bad it won't make any money, because, "OMG, it doesn't have sadistic violence and attempted rape like Perfect Blue or Kill Bill, so it sux, dude!"

I say "Go for it!" but I'm sure Gatsu would disagree. Smile

He already has, after a fashion.

I wouldn't worry about it, he'll spin himself off into the oblivion of triviality where all perpetual iconclasts go. I hope he meets Ambrose Bierce.

I thought to be eligable for awards consideration it had to run for 7 days in LA and NY before the end of the year, so if it opens on the 29th it won't quailfy until the 2005 awards (for movies released in 2004) instead of the 2004 (for movies released in 2003)

Makes you wonder why they're "rushing" it.

I hate that you stole my thread more. And I was being sarcastic.

Big K: Sony of Japan has the rights, so it's inevitable that it's gonna get released here.

Deltha: FYI, I was making fun of fandom!

It's "iconoclast". But yeah, I was hoping Millennium Actress would get an Oscar, though Satoshi Kon deserves the award nonetheless. (If it were up to me, Miyazaki would've gotten an award for Porco Rosso as well.)

Jet: Man, they keep changing the rules every year! Probably this time because the awards got moved up to February.

sarcasm usually isn't the best for a thread started, even when it is a reply to news. you could of at least had a serious comment in that post.

I'm looking forward to seeing both Millenium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers...and while I'm at it, Kon's TV project too.

I just hope Tokyo Godfathers gets to a theatre in some what close proximity to me.

And Spirited Away was one of Miyazaki's most mediocre films. That's what the Academy goes for: medicrity.

Your review was the best Spirited Away review I've ever read, I must say. Before I read it, I thought Chris Beveridge's opinion about the film was the closest one to my own, but I'm a fair bit more positive about the film than he was, I just found it a bit underwhelming compared to the critical hype it received (and compared to Kiki's Delivery Service, which I like better on pretty much every level except animation quality, but even there it's pretty good).

Anyway, Tokyo Godfathers is equally as disappointing as Spirited Away. (But still better than most anime out right now.I still appreciate his stylistic approach to the film, even if it needed an additional 30 minutes to feel more whole. )
Although it'll probably get a lot of hype, since Millennium Actress unfairly got none. I enjoyed Perfect Blue, but I don't like the fact that that's the only movie fans expect from Satoshi Kon. If you read the latest Animerica, he's worked on a variety of different projects, from Jojo, to Roujin Z, to the Magnetic Rose segment in Memories. And all I can say is I hope he can take over Otomo's company when he retires, because I consider him the official successor to Otomo-sensei. Well that, and he deserves respect for being such a nice guy and so passionate about his work, even when only a few people see it.

GATSU: FYI, I was making fun of Ambrose Bierce...or perhaps I was truly mocking myself (I am now, at any rate).

I can't believe I forgot the second <o>.
