I can understand them pulling them from real store shelves if they ever got there. But if they are only available through an online store surely people will read the blurb at least before buying something blindly online? I can't see how this will fall into 'too young' hands unless their parents let them have free rain with their credit card... unless, does walmart.com accept gift vouchers as payment? If that's the case then I understand them pulling the titles.

Walmart has a history of censoring things. They wouldn't carry Nirvana with the song title 'rape me' on it. It only carries the 'edited' version of some CDs and DVDs.
(Personal Experience: My ex- LOVES 'The Golden Child' with Eddie Murphy, I bought a copy at Walmart(Hey, it was 9.82, I couldn't resist) It was heavily edited, swearwords, nudity, etc all removed. I couldn't return it, either, because it was opened. *low growling sound* But that's another story.) Soo... My take is it doesn't match their idea of 'morality'. Which is their perogative. Personally, I try to buy as little as possible from Walmart. Intetsu |

Wal-Mart's Morality defined:
"Remove anything that people would deem questionable from our media. Then, move into a new town and sell things at impossibly low prices (because we order our supplies by region instead of by store) in order to sink all of the local small businesses that have been thriving for generations. In the meantime, we will treat all of our employees like s*** and make them wish they hadn't quit their job at McDonald's to come work for us." True story. Wal-Mart came into my hometown. I quit a job at McDonald's to go work for them (I was in high school and the economy was in a slump), and regretted it the week after I had done it. Then, the local business that my mom worked for suffered irreplaceable losses because their wholesale price was only a few cents below Wal-Mart's retail price. As for Wal-Mart not selling yaoi though, more power to them. There are plenty of other places to get that stuff. |

Who the heck goes to Walmart for their yaoi fix anyways :/ Not a big deal, especially being I didn't know they carried yaoi online or otherwise to begin with. That still seems kind of wierd to me though, considering that they still carry Gantz in store... or rather, it stilll seems kind of wierd to me that despite the general prudishness of Walmart, they actually carry Gantz in store.....

I agree that it is a bit strange that Gantz is still at Walmart...pretty explicit stuff for them...a coworker first showed me the hentai titles where offered there. I could care less that they pulled them...I am just curious to the one that thought it would be good family entertainment. "Mommy this cartoon makes me feel funny in my pants" HA!

There is a follow up article that states that Wally World has never purchased or sold ANY Yaoi titles. The titles were listed on their website because they automatically import a list from their distributor who does cary Yaoi and the titles were never marked as ignore like they should have been. There really is no story here Wall art never did sell Yaoi, they had some bad links on their web site that were removed.
That doesn't mean I would ever shop at WM, to many other issues with the company that I just can't support. I'll spend my money any where else. |

Has anyone looked at that article? The picture at the top is...amusing. I just know someones mother is out there like: I knew that all anime was porn and is going to turn my 15 year old gay! I never was able to understand how wal-mart could go through a whole movie and edit it and then put it on the shelves. it seems like if you would just let the consumer decide. and as much as I need a job theres no way in hell i'd worked there. |

Wal-Mart shouldn't be the ones selling yaoi in the first place. They need to leave that to the anime retailers who know what they're actually selling.

Well Wal-mart and Target both have anime at pretty decent prices, so I wouldn't rule out buying something from here. But this isn't surprising at all. Wal-mart is a family store and anything overly obscene doesn't belong in the store, online or not.

Haha, I thought that was just a rumor.
And I've never heard of walmart editing anything themselves, before. I do know they had banned CDs because of the band's name or what they considered to be inappropriate cover art, but other than that they just carry "clean" versions of CDs that are supplied by the publishing company.(Most of which, if you're shopping at someplace like Best Buy or Sam Goody/FYE/Suncoast, you can still get popular CDs in "clean" and "parental advisory" editions) |

How much control does the band have if Wal-Mart chooses to 'clean-up' their music? That's not really Wal-Mart's choice is it?
I would think the band would have to give them clearance to do it, and it doesn't make sense that any band would want their sound messed with, especially by such a huge corporation. Crazyness. I had no idea that this sort of thing went on. As for the hentai, I think Wal-Mart needs to do a better job of knowing what they sell (especially if they are family-proofing other things) |

...That's why you don't buy books from stores like Wal*Mart. You use amazon or go to a bookstore.

It's not Walmart's choice, it's the recording studio's choice. Thank you, Mr. Missingthepointofmypost. If a band is popular(the only kind of music walmart sells is the popular stuff), the recording studio almost always releases a "clean" version just so it gets carried at stores like Walmart that otherwise wouldn't carry it because of the parental advisory tag. |
