I was wondering if anybody has dealt with these people before http://toysnjoys.com/.?
I ordered a figure off of them back in November, and come late December, still no toy. I emailed them and was informed they were sold out and would be restocked of the figure I ordered in about a month, and asked if I'd like a refund, which I asked for, but still have not gotten the refund or a response back from them for 3 weeks now. They were fastidious to take my money (about 2 days after the order was placed), but with still no refund or response, I think I got swindled. Does anyone know if they are reputable or rip off? |

I've heard lots of similar complaints about ordering figures and not getting them and then not getting a reply to emails and phone messages, and worst of all, no refunds. I'd recommend that everyone keeps their distance from the rip-off artists known as Toys N Joys, they offer neither.

I have been to the brick-n-mortar store. They're one of the best stores in Hawaii for anime, video games, and other similar hobbies, and have generally friendly employees.
I can't vouch for the online store, but there's plenty of online stores out there that are swindles or simply lousy at service. Just keep bugging them and you'll eventually get the goods or money that you want. |

I've heard about the refund problem dealing with the internet.
Don't get me wrong, they're not a bad retailer in person, but I've been hearing about these complaints about them over the internet. They shouldn't be as shady as this is sounding. They are a genuine store and have been open for many years, so I'm not sure what kind of issues they're coming across as far as internet orders. I do know prices are different online than it is in the store. Online seems to carry a better deal, but I still like to go in person, especially for models cause I can choose which one I want when it comes to detailed painting And of course if you want the online price you need to order online. I did order from them online before and received my products promptly and fine, but I know I've heard complaints from others, so I don't know which is mostly the case. >.< |

Do you have printed copies of your transaction/correspondences?
If you do, you could take the pages to Better Business Bureau or something like that and see if they can expedite your refund. |

I've got my copies of everything from where I dealt with them, as I save records of all my online transactions until what I order is in my hands as a precaution. I didn't think of contacting the BBB. EDIT: Thinking about it, it would be too much hassle to go and jump through all the loops I'd have to in order to get my money that way. What shipping did you choose? I forgot what types of shipping they offer.
Though, I know it takes about 2 weeks for me to get rightstuf by ground. I'd imagine that to Florida from Hawaii would take much longer than that. >.< gah, I really hope everything gets resolved, you can pm me if you need any sort of help to get to them in person. |

Anyone use Anime Toys Online? I ordered a GITS: SAC box set from them and they charged me 13 bucks for shipping, (it was from California) and I thought it was the "next day delivery" thing, and a week later I got the box set! Then when I watch the DVDs, two of the three discs kept skipping!
So I e-mailed them about return policies, and all they replied with was: "Is your DVD player a Samsung? Some anime DVDS does not work on Samsung." I sent it back, and It costed me TWO DOLLARS to send it! They totally scammed me on the shipping, and when i got a new box set, an episode skips on it! So, I decieded to heck with it and keep the one skippy episode box set. Anyone have problems with Anime Toys Online? I have never used Toys N Joys.... I almost did though! |

These two points lead me to believe you've purchased a bootleg DVD set. Which, in turn, is likely to explain your crappy custoemr service. (And a quick search of this site nearly confirms it- if what you bought is one of the 'region-free' sets, it's bootleg. Hence your troubles.) |

How much did you pay for the box set itself? I agree with duellady that you probably got a bootleg. Generally speaking, not always, if you see a full box set for 15-25 bucks at some online store it's a bootleg. |

The BBB is a joke. No, really, it is. You can complain all you want and maybe something will happen, but it won't be because of the BBB. Sometimes the person on the other end is just as naive and can be persuaded to help you if you threaten to take the case to the BBB. The honest truth, however, is that the BBB is nothing more than an opaque retention service for storing the written complaints of all the various people who've already been screwed. That might be a useful service in-and-of itself if they didn't hold back so much of what they know from people who have yet to get screwed. If you don't mind shouting into a vacuum then by all means please contact the BBB. When it comes to consumer complaints the US market almost always protects the business at the expense of the individual. The BBB is just another useless arm of the grotesque charade we call consumer recourse. |

My friend ordered some figures from there about 2 months ago. They never sent them or responded to her e-mails. Thank god her credit card was not billed.....too bad she really wanted to get that merchandise. They could have at least responded. I have no clue what happened... she even got an order confirmation the day she ordered. Sounds like poor business skills. I'll never order from them now.

What are bootleg DVDs? I have never heard of them. I paid 23 dollars for the box set. |

Bootleg DVD's are unlegit(illegal) releases of movies, and tv shows. For example, let's just say that a certain company had just released "XXX" anime series on DVD. Meanwhile, some people who want to make money off this series too, make a cheap imitation of it the legit DVD's and sell it off for way less then price of the company's release. Most bootleg DVD's are 3 disc sets and are usually contained in a paperish box. Also, check out this thread on bootlegs and read the links that are posted on the top of the page and you can look at this picture I posted of a bootleg DVD set. Here's where to buy Ghost in the Shell:SACif you want the legit boxset. |

From all the online retailers that I've been dealing with for years, I've noticed from my credit card bills that they withdraw the cash only by the time the items are shipped and I had no problems yet in getting a refund after asking for it, so the chances are you've dealt with a dubious retailer. |
