I currently subscribe to Netflix and have been rather impressed with their Anime selection. That being said I'm considering a switch to Blockbuster online, becasue for the same price you get somewhat better service & flexibility.
But I'm wondering if Blockbister online has a comparable selection? (I'm pretty much blown away by waht the selection Netflix has to offer.) Has anyone tried both? Are they about the same, or does one have a significantly better anime offering?
What do you think?

This seems like more of a retail question, so I'm going to move it to Retail.
As for the topic, I don't rent my anime. I usually buy it. I try to keep up with just the series I really, really like (sometimes out of blind purchases) or some that I've already seen and just want to buy for the sake of having it.
I haven't been to a Blockbuster in forever. But last I checked, they didn't have crap worth of anime. I've at least browsed Netflix's site, and they have quite a large selection. However, hearing of Blockbuster's new and convenient option of actually exchanging DVDs through the store, I'd definitely say that's the way go (since those stores are pretty easy to find).
I just don't know about that selection part, though. Do they really have a lot of anime now?

I've been both a member of BB and Netflix and while your right that BB doesn't have much in terms of anime in store there online selection is better. What nice about BB exchange program is that you can get a new dvd that's in-store so if you feel like getting something you can. Although more then likely it won't be an anime (unless you have the need to see Howls Moving Castle) but that alright with me since I watch a large amount of "normal" movies. Anyways I am currently a member of Rentanime.com as well as netflix. I will probably drop netflix after my current quater is over (I am in a film class and a lot of indie titles aren't available with BB) and switch to BB.
The other good thing about BB is one free game rental a month, and that important because games are like 7-8 dollars each.

I joined rentanime.com because netflix wasn't carrying enough titles that I wanted to see, or more importantly netflix would stop carrying a title half way through a series. Which is so upsetting since then you need to buy the other volumes. Also the other thing that was making me mad with Netflix was that often times with older series certain disc were missing. Like Gasaraki which currently is missing disc number 6 and 8, so I would have to find singles of those volumes.....so forget that.
As to BB selection, I think that netflix has a better number of titles but if you want to get titles in store I would go with BB since I like their customer service better.

Well I work at blockbuster and am constantly doing 2 week trials for myself and for the store, and yes the selection of anime is definitely subpar. I'd say cost per movie, netflix is more than BB after they rolled out the new program(though, all that means to me is I have to try to get people that are saving all that money to buy something), but for anime and anime alone you definitely won't be sticking with them. If you do want a couple of dvds from them, sign up for a 2 free week trial and cancel before it's up and you won't be charged. I've already used all of my bank/credit cards for free trials lol.

I have an account with Netflix (been off and on ever since they rolled out nationally years ago) and Rentanime at the moment. I tried BB online but wasn't impressed during their initial roll-out. It might be a lot better by now though. I'd suggest that you do several searches for series you're likely to watch before you make your decision. I heard greencine is another good option as well so you might want to check them out. All of them are better than what we had to put up with prior to the DVD mailing systems, in my view. I still don't understand why every DVD ever made wasn't also turned into a VOD option on the digital cable systems. Must be a licensing issue since I'm pretty sure the ROI would be enormous.

I used to rent from Greencine a couple of years ago. They had a very good stock of anime and a decent turnaround time (2-3 days in the Bay Area). They're not as big as Netflix which means they have fewer warehouse locations. The closer the warehouse to your address, the faster the turnaround time, so you may want to look into that before choosing Greencine.
