FUNimation has just aquired Kiddy Grade. That seems interesting. There is a rumor that it might air in Cartoon Network's Adult Swim somewhere in 2004. For the people who didn't hear it is just a rumor it might not be true

Err, it's called Kiddy Grade and they licensed it over the summer...

My great apologies about the title.

Whenever Funimation acquires something, there's always a rumor that it'll eventually air on CN, because as we all know, CN has love affairs with both Funi and Bandai.

>.> I get the feeling that people are highly underating Kiddy Grade due to it's name. All those toonami sites were complaining about the name, thinking it was something for kids, when if they would just take a look at the title, they would know it was otherwise. Why I'm bringing this up, I don't know.

A friend of mine just finished watching Kiddy Grade, and he said it was really good. Let's hope if they do air it on Adult Swim, it won't get the Blue Gender treatment.
...and yes, its being licensed by FUNi is old news.

Okay, Blue Gender probably holds the record for the most heavily-edited program to ever show up on Adult Swim (well, aside from Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo!, and Gundam 0083). Check out Kyle Pope's Edit List to read for yourself.
The reason for this is that FUNimation apparently had a lapse of intelligence, and forgot that Adult Swim is not Toonami. As a result, before sending Blue Gender episodes to Cartoon Network, they edited them in advance...rather heavily. They noticeably lightened up around the second half of the series, though, so maybe they learned.

I've also heard this as an explanation for what happened:
- Cartoon Network sees the first few episodes of "Blue Gender" and asks Funi for the broadcast rights.
- Funi, which had been very lenient with its editing standards (they once edited back in a middle finger in "Yu Yu Hakusho" before its move to Toonami), edited "Blue Gender" rather leniently and sent the tapes in to the folks at Williams Street.
- Williams Street sent the tapes back, citing that Funi had been too lenient with the editing.
- Funi, not wanting to risk the tapes send back a second time, decide to edit the series more heavily.
- Funi sends the tapes to Williams Street, who have to air them because the broadcast schedule is already set.
This may or may not be the reason for the heavy editing of "Blue Gender", but it's the best explanation I've heard regarding the matter.

That and they were edited for Toonami, not for AS. Or else, Tenchi and gang would be drinking saka, and Gene and crew would have played Poker.

Not to mention Gene would of been actually drunk and the episode where everything is explained would of been aired.

I'm well aware that Outlaw Star, Tenchi, and Gundam 0083 (Pilot Candidate, too) were pre-edited for Toonami. But they did appear on Adult Swim at some point, and thus are in the running for "most edited programming to appear on AS."

Didn't a heavily edited version of Evangelion air on AS for 2 eps. as part of their Giant Robot week or something?

It was on Toonami (hence the ridiculous editing), which is licensed by ADV, not FUNimation, and thanks to low ratings, will never be seen on Cartoon Network again.
