Considering that animated films are frequently nominated for best picture in Japan, I can't say I'm thrilled about this proposed segregation.

This is the first time they've made an award dedicated to anime, not the first time anime has been in the awards, right? Or has this actually been a live action award ceremony all this time?

They actually have a live action ceremony for this, seen it myself. As for them awarding the best anime picture of the year after all this time, I'd say it's a good thing that they're starting it, I don't think some Japanese realize how big anime is over here. |

Detective Conan? Really? o_O
Well, I heard movie 10 wasn't as hot as it could have been. -_-;;; |

I thought it was one of the better Detective Conan films. Obviously it has no chance of winning this thing and I guess it is there to make up the numbers. But as a suspense thriller for kids (which is the form the Conan films tend to veer towards rather than whodunnit) it works well and as a 10th anniversary film it manages to cram almost every recurring character in without it looking clumsy. |

No Paprika? That's some BS right there.

Yeah, I was only familiar with two of the movies on the list. I went to find out about the others... and thank god I did, I love Arashi no Yoru ni! If it was more popular, I might've seen it as quickly as I did Brave Story! Brave Story was ok... but Arashi no Yoru ni was a movie that got to me! That movie made me cry and want to turn vegetarian. Well, not like I eat goat anyway.

I assume Paprika wasn't eligible since it hasn't been shown in Japan yet as far as I know. |

I could've sworn I saw a poster in Tokyo about the Paprika roadshow starting last month. This Web site agrees with me. |
