Do this means that their is no more fansub anime on youtube? If It is it a shame because it was easily just to watch fansub anime on youtube then actually having to import a anime that has not been made into a dub yet.

almost impossible to prevent user to upload pirated materials. the system has no way to know what materail is on those video. the only way is to hire some people to check all the newly uploaded file. |

Well even if their able to prevent people from uploading stuff, it's still there. Search for certian words, it's all there. But I understand a little bit where JASRAC is coming from, but still. That's alot of videos to remove.
Also, I know from my own personal experiance that watching the fan stuff and the AMV's help generate hype for the show., and can increase it's popularity. |

I think youtube got the sweetest deal ever selling when it did.
And google bought a 1.6 billion dollar legal disaster. It's too bad too, the day it got sold I predicted it would be the end of youtube. Deep pockets attract more problems, and no one's going to let youtube be under the radar any more. |

It might be a pain to type but that organization's full name is Japanese Society for the Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC).

I totally agree that full episodes of anime series should be removed from YouTube. I've seen full episodes of US licensed and non-licensed series up there.
But I also think there should be some freedom. I had several favorite Ouran High School Host Club AMV's I watched a lot that were removed by request from Nippon TV (I think that was the TV station anyway..). I think they should focus on removing all the full episodes, and leave AMV's and short 1-3 minute clips that could help generate interest for upcoming series. |

Most people are missing the real reason for the complaints from JASRAC.
They are trying to conclusively show that they have a significant percentage of copyrighted content on the site. This is the first step in collecting fees from YT and making deals with the site so that they can collect some compensation or sign a deal in a similar manner to what some US content owners are in the process of inking. Basically Japan wants their fair share of the massive ad revenue being generated by YT since a nice chunk of traffic generated by the site comes from Japanese media. |

In my opinion anime fandom would not be as big as it is today if it wasnt for fansub episodes. The dub of a anime is usally to overedit for a hardcore fan. So,what is the big deal if fans subbed a anime episode it raising the awareness of the show and the popularity of the show too and it sure beat the hassle of importing that anime.

also, the problem is it's hurting sales in Japan. anime prices in Japan make anime prices in the US look dirt cheap, even if you compare them to a little over a decade ago. the Japanese fans having access to the anime on YouTube could hurt/is hurting their sales so they want it to be taken down, which is reasonable - especially since it was uploaded against the YouTube Terms of Use to begin with. I'm all for YouTube taking off all anime myself because the people who create and who give us domestic releases of anime deserve respect for the hard work they've done to give us anime. the way a lot of people see fansubs these days, as a free alternative, is a slap in the face to them. it hurts them, and it could ultimately hurt US as well, because with less sales they have less money to work on new titles with. |

But a portion of that stuff on YouTube isn't on bittorrent and YouTube is more easier to use than bittorrrent.
JASRAC should get the money out of them if they have a right to it imo. |

I really wish JASRAC and all those companies in Japan would realize the free marketing potential of Youtube. Like CBS, Warner Music, OK GO and Panic at the Disco have. Even if it means getting on Youtube and posting the stuff themselves like CBS does.
And I still don't get why so many people watch fansubs on Youtube. The video quality is so poor you can barely make out the subtitles. |

If only people had moral issues with watching an anime on You tube and not going out and buying the series if they liked it. But alas people somehow can do this which makes me angry since it hurts the business they love so much. Also not all the vids on You Tube are of bad quality by the way just got to know who to get the vids from.

Thing is with things like fansubs and YouTube, It all depends on how you use it. If you are just watching them to get free anime and nothing more, with an attitude of "Oh, I'm not going to watch the licenced version because I allready saw the fansub," yeah, your hurting the industry.
First of all, using it to preview anime is using it the right way, in my opinion. But that aside, I had an experience on saturday night when I ended up having to miss Bleach, Trinity Blood and Eureka Seven. Though I have seen all of the fansubed episodes of Bleach, I am trying to watch the english dub for many reasons, but the biggest is because I simply want to support the creators of the series. I tried to catch them on Adult Swim fix, but aperantly, they don't show any anime. So i went to YouTube, and they had the dub of Bleach and the fansub of Eureka Seven. I had to download the fansub of Trinity Blood via bit torrent. So you see, fansubs and YouTube both helped me catch the episodes I missed. This isn't the only case that has happened with me either. These are all the right ways to use them. Personally, with the paragraph above as a good example, I think it is a great way to serve the fans, so long as they don't abuse that access. I see it as more of a privalage then a right to watch them. |
