You guys didn't know that until now? The new Kujian and Genshiken will be "reversed" i.e. Genshiken OVA bundled with Kujian TV releases.
The reason? Well, it's my personal speculation, but some part of latter Genshiken manga, especially the part of creating yaoi doujinshi, is still not quite acceptable on TV, even in Japan. Plus it's funny to have switched roles for the two.

I suspected as much, but this is the first confirmation I've gotten.
I'm not really looking forward to paying $25 per episode of Genshiken from now on. I don't like Kujibiki and am not looking forward to supporting a show I don't like in order to collect a show that I really love.

They just totally didn't get the irony of Kujiun. It's a disgrace.

i get it completely. we watch a version of what the cast of Genshiken watched. this time the full version, instead of us just getting glimpses of what they were watching.

The irony of the current Genshiken/Kujibiki Unbalance situation is this.
The whole joke of Kuji-un is that it's such a lame clichéd show, with over the top stereotypical characters and plotlines and crappy animation - and Genshiken guys are totally obsessed over it. They spend hours analyzing it like it was some deeply philosophical piece of literary genius. You're supposed to laugh at Genshiken because you're supposed to (be able to) laugh at yourself.
Kio Shimoku obviously hit something on the head with Kuji-un, and it truly breaks my heart. That it is possible to (calculatingly) create a series that employs all the standard characters and plotlines, say that it's just that, and still get people excited about it. I mean, the whole idea is like out of pages of Genshiken, it's so absurd.
That's why I say the irony of Kuji-un escapes Media Blasters, but hey, who can blame them if it actually sells because the viewers don't get the twistedness of it.
No, I'm not excited about Kujibiki Unbalance, I'm disgusted by it. I generally believe in "live and let live" and if some people like this sort of stuff it's not taking anything away from me. Except that in this case it literally is - instead of a new season of Genshiken we get Kuji-un, and it's only a small consolation that we get three new episodes of Genshiken on the side. And distributing them this way is just adding insult to injury. I seriously hope they release them in North America as a collection of Genshiken OAVs, because there's no way I'll pay for Kuji-un. No f***ing way.
Ahem. Rant over, I just see red when I start thinking about this.

I totally agree with you. While I wouldn't mind a new Kujiun OAV, I think a TV show is a bit overboard. That said, it is clearly illustrating Shimoku-sensei's point-otaku like things that are clearly made for them, and that feel familiar. I personally am a huge Genshiken fan, and I was so excited over the OAVs. It's better than nothing.
And I think they could show Ogiue drawing yaoi doujinshi on TV, since Kujiun's on a satellite network. Gravitation, Loveless, and many other non-hardcore BL series have been shown on Japanese satellite networks. I think since the manga don't show what Ogiue's actually drawing (at least not the sexually explicit stuff), the anime would follow suit and could be aired on a satallite network. On non-satellite-probably not
And their doing a full length Kujiun manga as well. Shimoku-sensei's not drawing it though-good for him! I hope he does more amazing series like Genshiken

or so we wish.
but i hate the new revamp of kujian. and althought its hated by a lot of fans i ended up liking the original kujibiki unbalance for its cute design and cliche animeness.
but anyway i dont like the fact that it was changed to be a 13 ep series instead of genshiken. i love genshiken a lot more but i would find this more accepting if they stuck to how kujian was before. fun and stupid and cute and great to cosplay as.
anyone know if genshiken has a new theme song and how long is the ova? standard 26 mins or longer.
i wish its th latter because there no way they can finish off the manga with 3 episodes! maybe they'll finish vol 4 and go into the end of 5 if they skip crap which i hope they dont. anyone elses insight into it?

While I am sad at a lack of a full new Genshiken series, I will be watching Kujian... I like generic stuff. Plus, I'd prefer if the OVAs came with Kujian in the American release. Why? Because I can save about $25. That's why. *is a selfish bastard*

The new Kujian looks like some random moe shows that have been coming out in recent years. If anything, the boy reminds me of an obviously inferior version of Negi. At least the old version satirizes an art style older than the generic "moe" of today.
I mean, I'm probably one of the few Harutards who can't stand the looks of all those Mikuru-lookalikes in the KyoAni shows.
In other words, I have no interest in it. Genshiken's special because it is different.
I wonder how they will be released here. Knowing the reputation of Japanese licensors, I'm pretty sure they will force this arrangement on American licensees. Knowing otaku, Kujian will no doubt sell here anyway. Knowing Genshiken fans like me, there will be people who'd buy the DVDs just for Genshiken alone. Ah well. Like I can change the world.

I'm guessing we'll see this by mediablasters in 2007. I'll buy kujiun, who knows it might be a good series. Also, the Genshiken OAV will be a great plus.
