I'm surprised you could sell it to an American tv audience.

They sold Azumanga Daioh to an American audience.
Besides, not all the references were exclusive to Japan - I'm sure parts of the American audience will recognize Pleinair, for example. In fact, I'd bet that an American audience would catch the Pedigree/RKO bits before a Japanese audience would. |

"There’s the bitchy Heather, the ADD spazz, the angry nerd, the identical twins, the invisible girl, the freaky class president, the drama geek, the Nancy Drew, the gamer, the princess..."
OK, lol what? I can understand trying to classify the characters to appeal to a broader audience, but still... I dunno. Correct me if I have this off. Bitchy Heather = Rei (?) ADD spazz (Isn't there only one Z in spaz?) = Himeko Angry nerd = Miyako Identical twins = Yuna and Yuma Invisible girl = Kurumi Freaky class president = Ichijo Drama geek = Serizawa Nancy Drew = Media? Behoimi? Gamer = ? Princess = Nanjou? *sigh* Makes me worry about the voices... I'm glad we get digital cable so I can listen to the dub before buying. Hearing the Comic Party Revolution dub dissuaded me from buying the series and wishing I hadn't deleted my fansubs. |

Oh, and since I didn't ever see an article come across, I ran through the show site on ADV's website and compiled a cast list. Hopefully it's useful to someone.
Rebecca Miyamoto: Hilary Haag (I can't wait to hear a pissed-off semi-Tessa version) Mesousa: Christine Auten Himeko Katagiri: Brittney Karbowski (It looks like they kept "maho," "ahoge," and "omega" intact!) Rei Tachibana: Carlee Gabrisch Miyako Uehara: Natalie Nassar Ichijo-san ("Miss Ichijo." On par, I guess, but I never liked "Miss" to replace -san): Maggie Flecknoe Suzune Shiratori: Kira Vincent Davis Otome Akiyama: Cynthia Martinez Hibiki Watanuki: Lesley Tesh Behoimi: Rozanne Curtis ("Healing type" becomes "soothing"... sounds like a stomach remedy) Misao Nanjo: Sasha Paysinger "Captain Alien and his subordinates:" Mike MacRae and Rob Mungle Sayaka Suzuki/Rokugo: Monica Rial Igarashi-san (Can't quite recall who this is, was that the alcoholic teacher?): Shelley Calene-Black Yuma/Yuna Kashiwagi: Serena Varghese Yuzuko Kurusu: Kim-L Nguyen Saotome-sensei: Kalob Martinez Tsurugi Inukami: Chris Patton Akira Miyata: Ryoko Shintani (This has to be an ADV error since that's the Japanese VA, accidentally copied over to the English column) Akane Serizawa: Luci Christian (Best casting decision evar. Serizawa = <3) Edit: found the complete cast list and updated accordingly. |

Why not simply check the ANN page?
Akira Miyata will be played by Jessica Boone, although I would kill for a Ryoko Shintani English performance. >_> EDIT: If you're worried about the voices, try the Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat dub as a sampler, since everyone in that show that's important (except for Gema) shares a VA with someone in this one. |

One of the trailer's on ADV's PPD website lets you hear Becky, all of Class C, and Yankee. Doesn't sound bad. Either way, the DVDs, at least in my opinion, are worth it just for the vidnotes, mostly becuause I don't think either of the fansub groups that did the show did a good enough job pointing out references to other anime and manga. Plus, I like to see them while I watch as apposed to reading them from a PDF after I've already seen the episode. Edit: Oops, correction. Rokugou doesn't say anything in the trailer, but the others all do. |

Hmmm, after listening to the dubbed trailer, I've noticed the announcer said something that this is made by the brains of Negima. He must be referring to the Negima!? series, right?

Yep. Triple A and Xebec animated the first series and the director was Nagisa Miyazaki. Negima!? TV is animated by Shaft with Akiyuki Shinbo as director (the Pani Poni Dash! team).
Does this mean that ADV has Negima!? TV? If so, smart move ADV! ( I hope they got the OVAs too.) Oh yeah, this is totally sellable to R1. We had Excel Saga and FLCL before this. I wonder how the blackboard got handled. Negima!? TV has a sentient blackboard too. Last edited by hikaru004 on Tue Oct 17, 2006 9:12 pm; edited 4 times in total |

I watched the trailer today, and hearing the American voices made made crack up. Rebecca sounds very well-done, but I think I'm going to have to get used to Himeko. My expectations were too high, since all female Japanese seiyuu sound, uh, kawaii; and is rare in America to match that voice.
That being said I can't wait to buy this show. |

But Negima!? was mentioned (as "Negima" on ADV's website for Pani Poni Dash!) and not Moon Phase? Moon Phase is the current Shaft title that is over here right now. Negima!? has only recently started airing in Japan. If you were going to mention a Shaft title in R1 and not worry about promoting the other distributor's title, then you'd use Moon Phase. No distributor is that stupid imo. That's why I think that ADV may have Negima!?.
Besides, it's highly doubtful that FUNimation would bring over the remake since they are actively promoting the first series. Even the pactio cards are different. And, FUNimation has a relationship with Gonzo, but that didn't stop Geneon (Japan) from getting Pumpkin Scissors. I bet these "relationships" don't ensure 100% of anything or "first dibs". |

This is one of the more cringe-worthy dubs that I've seen (probably because this is the first show that I've seen the dub after the original).
I didn't watch the whole trailer, but Rei reminds me of the voice actors from a particularly horrible dub of "Dirty Pair". Then again, it's gonna be on DVD. Hopefully it's notes are good so I don't have to be stuck with reading a pdf for the last eight episodes. |
