Tower Records stores are going out of business, so everything is being discounted. Currently, all DVDs (including anime) is 10% off of the MSRP (so, still pretty expensive). Books are 20% off, but I don't think they carry much manga. My local store only had the Eureka 7 graphic novels. I expect the percentages off will rise in a week or two though, so you may want to keep tabs on your local store. I'm not exactly sure when the stores are closing for good, but the newspaper said it should be in about 6 weeks.

Also, I don't know if there are any other Tower Records stores across the country, but the ones I'm sure are going out of business are the three on Long Island and the four in New York City.

10% off MSRP? Bleh. "Going out of business" sales have been a joke for years and years now. They're often run by some professional closing company unrelated to the business that's actually going under and the 'discounts' are often no better than anywhere else. Even so, you'll still be stuck with no easy return if anything is wrong with what you buy. Sometimes the previous in-store stock is replaced with junk from other sources so you're not always buying what was originally in the store to begin with. By the time the discounts are large enough to make the it worth your while the stock has often been rummaged through so much that it's barely worth even the highly discounted price. I'd rather just buy online and blow-off the 'going out of business' nonsense.

For dvds and cds, it appears to go up 5% every week. It should be 25% by this weekend. I'm not going to touch the dvds until it's at least 50% off. Tower Records was always a great place for me to hang out. Even if most of the cds were expensive they always had hard to find albums and had random sales. It will be missed.

It's a shame about Tower.

I was in the Torrance CA store last week. The sale is joke. They had new stock (items released last Tuesday), and every thing is priced up 25% and discounted 20%. I am not kidding, nice price CDs (which should retail for $10) were priced at $13.

The anime was picked over, but there were lots of box sets. If the discount goes to 30-40% then box sets and action figures could be a good buy.
