wow now that seems like my kind of job.....lots of traveling check, hands on experience as a GSR check, BA......not check....one more year.....oh well.

This job sounds interesting and fun...Its a shame that im too young, dont go to uni yet or have any experience. I want a job like this in the future, and i hope i get one too.

Gah, anime companies, why do you do this to me? Just as I finally *really* start going about the whole grad school thing...
Well, hey, for all the money I've spent on cons in the last, oh, seven years...I *really* shouldn't ignore any chance to make some of it back ^^ (and, before anything else, *yes* I also have 4 years of actual events experience, as in, in a corporate environment...) |

I can understand the attraction of working within the industry. That's great and all, but I think this job has got to suck. I mean, look at what they do, 30 cons a year? I love my cons and all, but that is a lot of traveling in the 52 weeks of the year. Most of these shows probably won't even be anime cons, but boring business ones. In addition, I don't think I could take all of the fans at an anime convention for that long. I think once the novelty of the job wore off, it would be just that, a job, and you would probably end up hating it.

That does raise an interesting question as to what days somebody working a job like this gets off. And, with all the conventions that *are* out thee right now, I would actually think that an overwhelming majority of those 30 would be straight anime cons. The only one I can even think of they would come out for that isn't is the Licensing Show in NYC. Bottom line is, hey, this works not if you're just an anime fan, but if you're an anime fan...who is also particularly interested in working in the events industry... |

This job would almost completely suck the life right out of you... setting up, tearing down, standing around asking stupid questions, and managing egos-- er, I mean guests... Not to mention little free time to enjoy conventions. Plus, by the time you hit your 18th or so for the year you're gonna hate the sight of one, chances are. The job always sounds fun, until you realize it's a lot of work. |

I've yet to see a job in the anime industry which isn't a lot of work... a fact which most people seem to ignore when they say that they want to work in the field. Yeah, this is a rough job, but I can also see some rewarding moments from it too. This isn't a job for the meek, or someone who just wants to get into the industry though... you'd better love working with people and be resiliant enough to deal with the issues that happen with each con. |
