Its really hard to make a call on Trinity Blood, i have heard reviews that are all over the scale on it. Like this review said and a few others, it DOES seem to have potential.
It may be worth checking out just to see if it take advantage of the positive elements it has. Geneon seems to be putting out more live action films i noticed in the last year... |

... Does this seriously happen? I find it hard to believe. Even though it's in the perishables, I'm actually most inclined to buy this now out of any of the others featured here, because I'm just curious as to how these things happen. That and because of its low price. |

Regarding Trinity Blood, I've been watching on AS and I'm not quite sure how to put it into words. It is a bit slow, but I like the characters. There was a hint of a mystery in ep 2 that I like. spoiler[ Abel's dream ] I am in it for the long haul. I plan on picking up the box and all.
I have faith(no pun intended) that the story is going to get better. |

This is the 1st fansub I ever gave up on. I haven't had many subs, but the story bored me.
It does pick up, but not enough for me to watch it or recommend it. It is my personal belief that is series is better when purchased, unless it is a complete dissappointment. When I spend money on a title, I atleast watch the whole thing so there is a possibility for it to get a lot better. I realy hope you like it since you plan on making the investment. I also hate how 3D CG elements were incorporated, the scythe just did not look cool to me at all. |

It's been a while since I've seen Green Green, but I'm not surprised. The sheer...forthwrightness of the carnal humour in that show is just outrageously funny (particularly because I've never seen anything this, uh, raw in anime form before) and disgustingly offensive at the same time. I would recommend watching Green Green only once (ergo, a DVD would not be a good investment); the "Baka Trio" are hillariously stupid and insensitive, but they're the lot who bring in most of the laughs. Yuusuke is just there as a reference point. I'd avoid that second OVA, though.

I agree with the placement of all the titles mentioned and pretty much agree with all of Bamboo's comments about them. I'm a bit surprised she didn't comment on the artistry in Trinity Blood, though. It's incredible, but also puts too much effort into being stylish.
One correction: the Ninja Nonsense volume shown and commented on is vol. 2, not 3. |

I agree on the "trying too hard" part, but the artistry... I'd call it "okay" at most. Yes, it looks nice, but it's nothing we haven't seen done better before. The world designs are good, but nothing more - creativity here is certainly not on the same level with that of, say, Gankutsuou. The character designs are not too interesting or creative either, except maybe for the costumes and the fact that Abel doesn't just behave as if he was the love child of Vash and Mo-chan (of 'Mosquiton'), he even looks like the two of them. And the animation... it has its moments but it's okay at best, and at times it's surprisingly bad. I don't know if it's been redone for DVD, but I remember a scene in one of the earlier episodes where the camera simply froze on one character, for over ten seconds, while the other one was talking off-screen. Come on! At least pan the background or something! Plus most of the action scenes that I remember (especially those involving guns) were laughably bad, mostly due to bad or mediocre animation and lack of creativity. Really, the problem with Trinity Blood is that it tries hard to be stylish, but it lacks creativity that's necessary for real stylishness, so it becomes poseur and cheesy. (God, the intro of that blonde, long-haired character!) At least this was the case in the episodes I saw, as I gave up on it pretty fast. |

The only titles that I've seen on this column were Eureka Seven Vol. #3 and Ninja Nonsense Vol. #2 (not Vol. #3 - that comes out in November I believe), and I agree with all of Bamboo's comments on both of them, especially about Onsakumaru being the true star of the show. It also helps that Sean Schemmell is giving an outstanding performance as the little yellow ball of fun; definitely a candidate for Best Performance of the year.

And on Green Green, from everything I know about it, it's bad, but I'm probably going to watch it someday anyway. I don't dispute its placement in Perishables. For some reason, all these recent Funimation action titles haven't really appealed to me, i.e. Speed Grapher, Trinity Blood, Basilisk. When they were coming out on fansubs, nothing about them jumped out as an "I've gotta get this!" factor, and the same applies to the DVDs. |

Ay, the only title I've seen of the whole lot is Ninja Nonsense, and I wholeheartedly agree with the review on it (Eureka Seven's been backordered on DVD Pacific for about three weeks now
). I felt this was something that just had to be licensed when I saw it on the fansub market about two years ago, so I'm glad that TRSI picked it up.
True, true. I'm glad he's nailed the role, given the energy needed to portray such a character. (Actually, I initially viewed Liam O'Brien as the best match for the role, given his performance as Taishi in Comic Party.) Hopefully, Mr. Schemmell will get a bit more mainstream work in the future, anime-wise.
Strangely enough, the same holds for me in terms of ADV titles. As of now, I'm only buying one title from them, and only two have piqued any interest in me for 2007. I seem to spending most of my purchase money on Geneon/FUNimation titles this year. |

Green Green is the only comedy show to not make me laugh even once throughout the course of the entire show. The jokes were repetitive and stupid in the not funny way. I would not recommend even giving this show a chance myself unless you like extremely low brow humor.

I want to see how Schemmel stacks up to Norio Wakamoto, who's voice is perfect for smooth-talkers such as Onsokumaru (who wants to be slick) and Kagato (who was $%^&ing bad@!#) Curse you, college commitments! |

I can't imagine that you will find Sean Schemmel's take on the role to be anything less than top-of-the-line. It takes just the right degree of gusto to pull off that role without going completely overboard, and Schemmel nails it. I also regard it as the performance to beat for the year's Best Male Vocal Performance, and IIRC Zac said pretty close to the same thing in his review of vol. 1. |

Not much of a difference IMHO. They both nailed the character perfectly and are very enjoyable to listen to. |
