Was scrounging around social bookmarking websites and came across this story:
"Megatron Revealed! 1st shots of Decepticon leader from Transformers Movie Ain't It Cool broke these a few hours ago, and received a request to take them down in near record time. Here is a link to the photos, with lots of others from the upcoming Transformers movie, directed by Michael Bay." How isn't it a Transformer? What'd you prefer, him turning into a pistol roughly 1/10000th the size of him? For no actual real purpose? Atleast the jet makes sense (he could be a Megatron harking back to Beast Wars Megatron who hated being organic/anything foreign, hence why he's the weird looking cybertronian jet. In which case, that'd actually be a benefit for his character. ) |

He looks like some sort of Star Wars species or monster from Stargate. I'm not sure.
And don't worry, ramezrh. It won't be an AVP clone. Because it's about robots. |

Dude, can you please not be so thick? 'hope it isn't another AVP' isn't 'hope it isn't an AVP clone', what it means (I'm assuming) is that they're not taking a very popular franchise with an enthusiastic fanbase and making a dull, bad film about it. |

Man....it's straying to far from the origional which I loved so much and still enjoy and cherish today. Why the hell is Scorpinok in it??? He was from some lousy spin off..Beast Wars.....and now he's in the movie. Their TO robotic. Whatever happened to the oldschool look. Not so many parts. At least Optimus looks ok transformed. Man, I think it would be pretty cool if they added in the....what were they called....the Dinobots. Couldn't they form together to make a really big transformer? I remember in movie the Decepticons formed a really big one and tore up the Autobot fortress. I think if they just redid the old movie it would be amazing. But I'm pretty onesided on the whole issue due to my loving the movie so much.

The fact is this is a mass-market appeal movie for 2007, not a low budget TV cartoon for children in the 80's. Theres 20+ years worth of differences. Beast wars wasn't lousy, Scorpinok was a G1 transformers (though this scorpinok is based on the BW one), they're 'too robotic' because they're a different take on transformation (only using car parts, no hidden blocks etc), oldschool look is oldschool, Dinobots don't combine, the Decepticons had several combiners/gestalts, their first was Devestator (7 construction vehicles), and redoing the old movie would just be a bad idea. Serious how can you hark for the days of old when you don't remember them? This is the huge problem with Nostalgia. |

Its been like...8 years since I've seen the movie. Im thinking I should watch it again to refresh my memory.
And hell, just because they modernize it doesn't mean it will be accepted. My friend hates transformers and regardless of how modern they look he still thinks its gay. He's not the only one. The new Superman movie was amazing. Dislikers of Superman did not think so. If you look at that link that was posted with the pictures and you scroll down a bit to the responses, someone posted the link of what Optimus SHOULD look like. That video is perfect. All they need is some red and blue paint. This new stuff is terrible IMO. You didn't like the old movie? There was that big planet guy that was destroying everything...and you had Rodimus Prime...that movie is classic....and the music was awesome to...great theme by White Lion. This shouldn't turn into an argument because I KNOW your right about the modernizing thing but IMO I just loved the old so much I'm not looking forward to this new take on it. |

yeah, problem is opinions are fickle things.
Actually, I must've mistyped, or glossed over that fact. The movie is seriously one of my all-time favourites and I love nothing more than just sitting back and watching it, which is kinda rare. But I also understand it's limitations and how just remaking it would be an abysmal failure. The best way to go with this is before the movie comes out, shed yourself of internet opinions. Go and see it as a brand new Transformers, not the Transformers you grew up with. Sure, it may lead to some dissapointment, but if you give it a fair go, it'll give you a fair go too. |

lol btw guys just so you know the transformers movie in the 80's was definately NOT low budgeot when it was made transformers were about the most popular thing going and alot of effort was put into its creation and it showed.
While sometimes laclustre by todays standards the transformers were very much characterised by their humanesque looking appearance and the fact that their robotic colors and contours fitted with their personalities. For example the grey cold functional blocks that constituted Megatron, The Red Bold and starky contrasting parts of Optimous Prime the theme was carried on to all the others including the Dinobots and yes i hope Grymlock makes an appearance and as for turning into a gun 1,000 of his size i thaught the whole point of cybertronian technology is that we cant understand it, so it could be considered a concentration of his powerplants focus into a single small shot .. although i agree Galvatrons artillery cannon transformation made alot more sense. However i believe a whole .. you cant hurt me with THAT puny gun scene would have been quite a good addition to the movie. I stand by my previous commend .. this thing is just another "Anime Metal Monster" and while il probably watch the movie since it will be cool anyway i can see that it isnt really going to be a transformers movie. |

Yeah, that's true, but the TV series was really quite shockingly badly made and only got worse as the episodes went on.
Firstly, you're looking too far into it. Secondly, it's Grimlock.
Cybertronian technology, if we're basing this off of the old cartoon and comics, wasn't so much 'not understandable' but more like it simply didn't make sense. I mean christ, Rebirth had Spike making an transforming autobot spaceship. Tracks couldn't talk because a hispanic kid cut a wire in his engine block. Pulling a "oh, it's all hidden in pockets of SPACE TIME", which'd be the only plausible way to explain mass-shifting, is an incredibly stupid idea that no one is going to like.
Despite it being Hasbro, being Transformers, Having Optimus Prime/Autobots, having Megatron/Decepticons, having Unicron, and Cybertron, and Transformations, and robots going from an alternate mode to robot mode and back... riiiiiight, not Transformers. |

Now I've gone and looked at this after ignoring it for some time, and I do have to say, that's quite different. I'm sure there's a logical explanation for why Michael Bay decided to do that, possibly to fit it into the storyline, at least O. Prime is a truck.
