True. It does give us a pretty bad name in the fitness department. But is this guy stupid or what? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that you have to be somewhat physically fit to fly on a spacecraft. Has anyone in Japan seen any of those astronaut movies where they make the people take physicals (Space Cowboys anybody?). Well, maybe he can be on the next shuttle.... |

This is awful. I was so looking forward to see how good his Char cosplay was.

Well, to be fair, you have to be in incredibly good shape to qualify for space travel. Odds are if we was some fat, swarthy nerd, they wouldn't have accepted his proposal in the first place. I'm betting he missed for other reasons, like perhaps not being able to handle the high-G training they make you go through for takeoff and landing. |

That is true that there is a chance that this person wasn't able to do handle lots of G-Force. But that said it makes you wonder if this person was really training hard for something like this or if they were just sitting around all day...So I retract my previous statement to a certain degree, until there is more information available about what part of the physical was failed. I'm thinking that's probably the case, but the irony of this situation given the otaku sterotype is somewhat amusing. |

You can fail a physical lots of ways. I mean it could be blood pressure, or a hernia, or even a sprained ankle. Hell his blood work may have had high suger levels. You must be in perfect shape to go into space.
But my guess is since he is a "internet entrepreneur who calls himself Dice-K after the lucrative website he founded, will spend six months next year at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Russia" it is proabalbly because he hasn't learned all the systems yet. I mean they can make up anything to allow for a learning curve. I mean the ISS might have lots of people who know what they are doing, but the launch capsule and re-entry vehicle on have 3 or 4 people in it. And he will be one of them. He needs to learn his job, and do it well. |

Y'know, I thought I remembered N*SYNC's Lance Bass' failed attempt to go to space getting cancelled because he couldn't pass the physical, but a quick Google search revealed the actual culprit was a lack of funds. Man, imagine if our otaky friend had hat that stereotypical otaku problem?

Man, how long do those trips last, and what do they even do up there?

Yeah. There's a reason a lot of the astronauts are from the military. There's always a reason, and it's not because he's an otaku. |

I highly support sending as many otaku into space as possible.

as someone pointed out earlier, it could be a lot of things.
also take a look at his age... several common ailments at people his age would be big factors against him travelling (especially if they're heart-related). I don't care how much you've trained, when they light that candle, you're probably going to freak a little. |

He's only 34... not by itself a reason for the ol' bod to be falling apart quite yet! |

Exactly just to let you know that there was this guy named John Glenn who was 70 or so when he made the last trip into space. If an old man (Granted he was an astronaut before) can be clear into space this fellow certainly needs to get his act together. Till next time, Delta Kiral |
