I wonder if this will be the final piece of animation for Inuyasha. I hope not, as the story is heating up in the manga. Maybe we might get a new TV show or some OVA's.

Thanks a lot for this review. I'm not a huge fan of the fourth movie either (little ooc moments and a hokey plot), although it's far better than the third. However, it's always good to see a review of InuYasha that looks at in a positive light and even mentions later events in the series while doing so. It's a great series that often gets more flack than it deserves.
I too hope that this isn't the last piece of animation done for the series. I would highly prefer if they waited until the manga was over so they won't add in filler crap, but if they did I think a thirty-eight of fifty-two episode series chronicling the rest of the manga would work very well.

I think your opinions, score, and breakdown of the movie are very close to what I thought of the first; it's fun for me as a fan to watch, but I couldn't compare it to my more "favorite" movies. However, I thought the second movie was much better than the first. It seemed to have more originality to me (I haven't watched 3 or 4 yet though).

This is about what I expected for Inuyasha. I haven't seen the movie yet, or the third one for that matter, but while Inuyasha is a "fun/good-to-watch", it's not something that can be compared to other top tier anime.
I still like the series, though, and I'm just waiting for Adult Swim's airings of the last two movies to see them. ^^

In the vein of the anime, it kind of blows. IY really is a poor anime adaptation and that makes me sad because the production values are high and the seiyuu are wonderful. But I absolutely think the manga is a top-tier title as it is one of the best, if not the best, mainstream (by mainstream I mean Shounen jump, Shounen sunday, etc) shounen titles out right now/from the past few years. The character development especially is... extraordinary. It is unfortunate that it's so often judged on the anime adaptation.

I agree, although I got into it through the anime I found the manga to be so much more enthralling. There really isn't that great of a difference between them: but the way the story and character development is paced in the manga makes it seem so much better. I must admit, it took Rumiko Takahashi forever to get the story rolling, but for me it's been worth reading throughout. The recent installments especially are just amazing, (what with Kikyo's final parting, and Sesshoumaru's journey into Hell to save Rin.) they really give me hope that the ending will be good.
As for the movie, I haven't seen it but I look forward to. I enjoyed the first 3 movies: they weren't that amazing or anything, just fun, well-animated side stories with the characters. Since Kikyo seems to be playing a bigger role in the 4th movie, I'll probably enjoy it.

Well, personally I've seen all of the movies, the anime, and read most of the manga up to the current manga which yes does seem to be getting more interesting but if you ask me I still think the manga like the anime suffers from plot circles a little too much, although it IS good they've pretty much confirmed that one or two of them are now gone. And again, I agree with the assertion though that the manga at least is a top-tier title and the anime does a pretty good job at least at adaptation, and heck some of my favorite moments from the anime are the fillers which are quite hillarious and the fourth special which is probably the deepest Inuyasha, both manga and anime, ever really got, bar none. Now as for the movies.... You have got to be joking if you think the fourth movie even is about as good as the second. In my mind though, the first and fourth are about as good and my least favorite, then the second and third movie which I think is the best Inuyasha movie and just Inuyasha action, period.

You get a copy of You Are Defeated in certain DVDs marked, and the card is amazing. Worth the buy of the DVD itself.
Loved the movie at SDCC as well. You either love the dub cast or you don't, and I think they did a great job. Definitely stick around for the ending of the movie.
Overall not as good as movie 3, but still a top notch movie IMO.

Personnally i enjoyed all the movies, ofcourse each has their good points and equally so their bad points. The fourth i did really enjoy maybe because here in the uk the full Inu Yasha series hasn't been released so i did see some things i hadnt seen before, as noted in the review the new attack which is rather cool. Admittedly some of the things are cliche, for instance Inu Yasha always sweeping in just in time to save Kagome, however im sure alot of people would complain if these things weren't retained just as much as they do when they are kept. One of my favourite things about any Inu Yasha movie is the little epilogue after the credits as they tend to contain some of the funniest scenes, and im always forced into laughter as Kagome says "sit boy" and i would be disappointed if it wasn't just stuck in there atleast once.
As for the movies in general the order i would rate them although i find this rather difficult is as follows.
2 Castle beyond the looking glass
3 Swords of an honourable ruler- 4 Fire on mystic Island
1 Affections touching across time
Although Affections touching across time is my lowest rated one i still find it an enjoyable watch as with all 4 of them as are the 1st 2 seasons that are released in the uk

As far as I'm concerned, I'm partial to the 3rd movie above the other 3. The fact that more of a background was given on Inuyasha's orgin in general in relation to his parents and the purpose of him having the sword that he has kind of came into full effect more. The series touches up on that aspect of the plot here and there. But it was nice to kind of have a movie dedicated to that. The fourth one was pretty decent but not would have to be my least favorite compared to the other two. All in all, its still a great story.
