I've noticed this for a while now. Newer cartoons are being drawn to imitate anime, ie. Totally Spies, Megas XLR, Martin Mystery and Teletoons newest show, Kappa Mikey. I'm just wondering why they are being animated this way. Is it because the creators are fans of anime or since a lot more people are watching anime, making a cartoon look like anime would bring more viewers to their shows. I personnaly think it is because the creators are fans and they want their shows to be animated like the Japanese.

Creators being fans could have alot to do with it. Also, from a strictly business perspective, anime and manga are both pretty popular in America right now, far moreso than say 10-15 years ago. Look at shows like the PowerPuff Girls, very successful and the huge-eyed characters were obviously inspired by japanese anime. While I don't see this as a bad thing, I really wish american animators could imitate anime's SUBSTANCE as well and not just the art style. But hey, cartoons are for kids here, so that's how it goes.

Totally Spies and Martin Mystery are from the French company Marathon. I've heard that many French shows use a similar style, but I don't know if it's true.

Anyway...I think most of the shows that are created with that style use it because the creators grew up with/enjoy anime and manga.

That helps dispel the notion that anime is for children only. ~_~

You forgot to mention that Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi, Teen Titans, and Avatar: The Last Airbender are also drawn to imitate anime. Even the Aeon Flux cartoons are included in the anime category in local DVD stores. Dumbasses.

Oh c'mon. Cartoons aren't just for kids. I'm 14 and I still watch cartoons (such as Foster's, Spongebob Squarepant, Camp Lazlo, etc.) You can watch a cartoon if you want regardless of age. It depends on whether the cartoon is entertaining for a teen or adult. There are right now millions of people my age period who watch Spongebob Squarepants and still do (If they like it, I mean).

I'm happy to know about Nerd Corps signing a Deal with YTV so YTV can air Teem Awethum!!!(All the incorrectness was on purpose) and STORM HAWKS so that their Animation can be seen.

Don't worry, I think by next year you will be much less enthusiastic about those kinds of cartoons, as will your classmates.

Don't be TOO sure... I'm 32 years old, and I love Spongebob! So does my boss, and several of my graduate school classmates. (Unless you meant that, due to the presure to conform, a teenager in HS would not admit to liking Spongebob... But what the hell... I never thought conformity was very cool anyway.

(Fosters kicks @$$ too, but I'm in a much smaller circle there...)
(Lazlo sux though. (IMO) Sorry... just couldn't get into it.)

Yay! Another Fosters fan! *glomps*

I'm personally a huge Teen Titans fan, and I have been for two years. On an extra for the first season DVD set, the creaotrs of the show say how they were influenced by anime because they are huge fans of it! Just check out episode 44 of the series, whic his in season 4, called 'Employee of the Month'. It is an episode that pays homage to Fooly Cooly! Also, there are references to His and Hers Circumstances in the last episode of the series, 'Things Change.'

Another series that is animated like anime but is not from Japan that I like is 'The Boondocks'. I've been really into the TV series, and I want to check out the origina lcomic book as well. Aaron McGruder, creator of the original comic, has said that he's a fan of anime, manga, and Samurai films. Also, it could just be a rumor, but I heard Madhouse was going to be involved with the animation on the second season.

I agree foster's is awesome, lazlo is funny sometimes, and the one about the animal school is pretty funny, too.
About 2 yrs. ago at m'school one wasn't cool if one didn't like spongebob. m'school is a little behind on the times and doesn't stick with the mainstream seeing as how they are just barely finding out about [as].
Wasn't that show kappa mickey supposed to be an anime parody?

I don’t know about some of the other shows you mentioned, but I found an old interview with the Megas XLR creators and one of them pretty much acknowledge and credit Macross/Robotech.
Quote:
One of the big inspirations for me for this show was – I don’t know if you guys ever watched Robotech or Macross, but like in the very first episode Rick Hunter gets into a robot and instead of being a hero, he wrecks buildings and almost kills Minay. And I was like, “That’s what I would do, man – I would wreck chicks’ houses just to look at them in a giant robot.” That’s why our hero does what he does – he’s a good guy, but along the way he causes a lot of collateral damage.

He's talking about American cartoons.

Anyway, I hardly ever hear anyone talking about cartoons and liking them in my high school amongst my classmates (senior this year). It could be that they are all just hiding their true infatuations and undying love for the American cartoon medium. Regardless, my friends don't watch American cartoons anymore, and nor do I, but again, they could all just be hiding it.
