Awesome. And I was the one who realized "Reborn!" wasn't even in the manga encyclopedia a few days ago.

I noticed that as well. I tried to add a page for it, but I couldn't figure out how to send in a page request for it. Another manga that is not in the database is Puyuu Fukuishuu Jaguar. This was the manga featured in Jump Superstars with the guy that has the recorder. I really hope they licinse that manga. It looks really funny. The only mangas from the game that haven't been licinsed are Ichigo 100%, Mr. Fullswing, and that. I think it has a good chance. Bobobo got licincsed. Why not this?

Well, now that the anime has been announced on the ANN news letter, the anime should get into the encyclopedia easily. |

I didn't read the preview. Was it any good? I read the first chapter of the manga though.

I think they just had a summary-at least in my issue.

I've always wanted to read the manga. The plot sounds so weird it's intriguing.

>>Meanwhile, Viz Media will release the original manga starting in October.
Oh, dear lord. Halliburton, anyone? The exclusive privileges awarded to this company are nothing short of disgusting. |

I agree. I understand that Malintex Terek has his issues with Viz's translations of their manga, but I really need some further explanation on this one. |

This one's not ringning a bell for me either. Course, there's an explanation for everything, if it's valid enough. |

Halliburton is an "oil & gas" energy company, formerly headed by Dick Cheney (the US Vice President) that was awarded exclusive rights to the rebuilding of Iraq, or rather, no other company that delt in the same business as Halliburton had the opportunity to bid on who would be awarded the Iraq contract. The situation is fairly simmilar to Viz Media, which I believe has foreward verticle monopolistic (and monopositic) control over Japan's "highest quality manga". In contrast to "better" forms of monopoly (coercive, some verticle & horizontal, and especially efficiency), since Viz is guaranteed the right to own and market manga without competition, there is no standard of overall quality for what they produce. In my experience, most of Viz's translations, book quality, and general appeal are poor when altered severely from the original Japanese tankobans. This phenomenon is clearly reflected in TOKYOPOP, which several years ago had a "monopoly" of the Kondasha library (something I to this day still object to), resulting in rushed (and error-specked) translations, untranslated sound effects (inconsistencies), and an inflated price ($10 for a manga may have been reasonable several years ago, but not after Viz started to cut the quality of their printing). Since I am not a fan of Hitman, the aquisition doesn't really bother me as much as that it's another "VIZ" title. Honestly, 2/3 of the Hitotsubashi exclusively operates through Viz, while the other 1/3 (Hakusensha) has its products divided between Dark Horse and TOKYOPOP, while their primary rival, Kondasha, is split between TOKYOPOP and Del Rey. Of those three non-Viz companies, TOKYOPOP is doing the poorest in sales and has obvious "quality issues" as well.
The problem lies not with me, but with Viz, and I really only care about One Piece; I have no objections about the other manga aside from Viz getting exclusive authority to license them. |

The only reason they put a summary instead of the first chapter was because they thought people would be more interested in Rurouni Kenshin.

I remember the last time they threw in two previews (was it the Buso Renkin issue?), they trimmed Hikaru no Go down to one chapter, which was not to my liking at all, so if they're not willing to up the page count for multiple exclusives, then I'd prefer they leave out the "previewed" series, and give me Hikaru no Go. And yeah, I was more interested in Yahiko no Sakabato, even if it was a disappointment. |
