Quote: | Producer John Woo's Ex Machina, a sequel to 2004's Appleseed, will be released next year in Japan. Thanks, Daniel Zelter. |
Yes yes yes! I can't wait till this title is out, Appleseed was one of the titles from last year that I was lucky enough to see in theaters. So next year in Japan is sometime in 07 then the US should get this in 08? Wow that seems a long ways off from now.

Good to hear, loved the movie and it certainly ended in such a fashion that a sequel is certainly a good idea.

I think I'm in the minority that really didn't like and care for Appleseed. It was trite and cookie cutter sci-fi. Granted the Animation alone was beautiful, but not enough to entertain me since there was very little substance. I don't remember whether I saw the subbed or dubbed version or not, it was that memorable. *shrug*

Does anyone know if it is going to use the same animation style as the last one?

I would say to you that perhaps you should see the original OVA that was brought over by Manga sometime in the 90's. All the animations isn't as beautiful as the movie the villian is someone you hate and I enjoy the story a bit more.

He's not going to direct the film. He is Produceing it, Shinji Aramaki Is returning to direct it.

Even if Woo was directing instead of Aramaki, I doubt it'd be any different from Shirow's vision, since they've both done cop stories.
Also, Woo has had experience with sci-fi with the little-loved, but not-that-bad, "Paycheck".

But John Woo isn't directing.......he's just a producer.

So right now I don't think there any need to worry, he was just a fan of the movie so he wanted to be involved in the sequel.
Till next time,

I think it took a year after the first one to come out, because no one(at the time) had the rights. I'm hoping Geneon at least has an option on the sequel, so we can see it sooner.
