Im talking "Religion In Pop. Culture" class at the local Jr College.
anyway I got a report do on the 16th and I was thinking of using Anime as my example and I rememembered Eva has a boat load of references/symbolism. a FAQ or something like that would make this alot easyer since I dont have all of EVA handy (just EoE) course I could probly use just EoE.

Not quite what you're looking for, but similar - Apocalypticism Japanese Style: Jewish-Christian Symbolism in Neon Genesis Evangelion (Dr. Mark MacWilliams, St. Lawrence University)

Check out the ANIME MANGA WEB ESSAYS ARCHIVE at http://www.corneredangel.com/amwess/. If you look under Series and then Neon Genesis Evangelion, you'll get a lot of stuff that delve into all kinds of Eva symbolism.

Some of the stuff the links talk about is common knowledge to an Eva otaku, but there's some gems in there that can be found. The only problem you may find is that most aren't written by "reputable" sources, i.e. scholars.

I recommend looking at Dr. Dennis Redmond's 6th and 7th Chapters of Video Culture because it's written by a scholarly source and he's got lots of interesting stuff. For example, I never consciously noticed that Eva 01's color may have some symbolism. Just like how Shinji's personality is somewhere between Asuka and Rei, purple (unit 01) is made by crossing red (unit 02) and blue (unit 00). Smile Just a funny little trivial thing that I learned.
