Tonights show had me laughing most of the way through it.
Beck with the Fro and the Lupin Vibe.
Dorothy waking Roger with the piano again only to find the piano tied up later so she cant play it again.
Dorothy riding the bicycle on the interstate at high speed.
Dorothy outsmarting Beck on the magnet.
The whole Power Rangers modular mecha parody

Post spoilers next time. There are those of us who live on the West coast and don't get to see it until 3 hours after you.

there was one or two times when the whole slap stick element annoyed me, but yeah, it was really hilarious!
like when beck's mecha transforms and he gives his little speech, and you just see dorothy and roger talking, and roger's fixing his tie...funny stuff

Umm, the transforming mecha is pretty old, much older than the orginal japanese power rangers, even older than my avartar's Gekkiganger-3. It comes from Getta Robo which is almost thirty years old now.

The fun word for this thread is parody or spoof. It was intended to be silly and funny.

My statement is that it is not a parody of Power Rangers, or the anime Voltron which Power Rangers is basied on, but rather Getta Robo, which they are all based on.

Note: Big O Season 2, and especially this episode is targeted directly to Americans.
With this in mind, the reference is somethign Americans would recognise. This isn't Gietta Robo, as most Americans would have no idea what that was. They would know Voltron. The scene is clearly a FVoltran/Power Ranger spoof.

I don't think it's specifically targeted to America. CN had no part in the creative process, which was wisely left in the hands of Katayama and Konaka. And from what I can see, Getta Robo is a better fit for the parody.

Delthayre and king micah are right that was definately a getta robo parody
also like Delthayre said CN only paid for the second season to be made... they had no say in the content of it

CN actually DID have a say in the content of the show. They did some script doctoring; in general, they let the Japanese do what they wanted, but they had final say on the scripts.

That's news too me.
I just hope it was Williams Street staffers who did the doctoring, and not Turner monkeys or CN general staff. I trust WS wouldn't mess with the show in any signifigant way.

Definitely one of the most entertaining Big O episodes. I can see the giant robot being a Getter Robo spoof, but I think it was just a more general giant robot parody, ala getter robo, mazinger, etc.
What I wonder is how this episode played in Japanese. Did the obviously American-POV, stereotypical Japanese people speak . . . Japanese?
