Ugh...I remember being so underwhelmed by this anime. This was Gainax's 20th anniversary work? Well, every studio has its ups and downs...

Just saw the first episode on my ondemand and I have to say what that the plot made no sense what so ever. I wanted to like it, but the when I compare this to the past animes I just can't help but feel cheated out of something that could of had potential.

I just watched it and enjoyed it. I will admit the story is a bit odd but give it some time this is only the first episode. Yes, this is their 20th anniversary work. I do not see how you can compare this to D.N. Angel.

Oh don't worry, it gets worse. You have about ten episodes of pointless comedy and fanservice to look forward to before they jam the entire plot into the last two episodes, literally. That is, if you watch it. |

Just finished it last night/this morning...maybe my standards are low, but I didn't think it was that bad. The plot is there throughout, simmering on "medium low" before getting turned up to "high" at the end. If you're expecting Saikano-type tragedy, it'll be disappointing...but was Mahoromatic so pointless & terrible just because it had a bunch of fanservice/comedy episodes?

So by high you mean rushing at least twelve episodes worth of story development into two and resolving absolutely nothing when it's all over. The think about Mahoromatic (which I'm not a huge fan of, but found it enjoyable for the most part) is that it was actually somewhat funny and actually manages to have emotional resonance; this was nothing but thirteen-or-so episodes of overly sentimental moe-bullshit designed to sell merchandise to otaku. |

Well, I thought that TUYBW did have a plot, but it wasn't in your face until the last 2-3 episodes. Little hints were dropped in each of the episodes up until the last 2-3. This series supposedly comes with translation notes, so I wouldn't expect a full understanding of this title unless I was reading the notes. (Here's hoping for copius notes.)
This would almost be like seeing Gilgamesh without the notes. |

I'm sorry, but if you need notes to understand a show, it's probably not worth your time.
That said, I didn't need notes to understand that KonoMini was a pretty mediocre show, and is not something I would ever voluntarily choose to watch again.

I think GAINAX wanted to load the show with subtlety as per the norm but did this for too long.
The major gripe I have about this show: too much boobage. |

I disagree. You shouldn't expect to understand everything about a title when it's released without some notes, especially if you don't have access to the source material. Take Yukikaze for example. Are you going to understand the lingo without the notes if you are not in the military? Then, there's shows like Paniponi Dash! that are loaded with references that people aren't going to get without the notes. |

I watched some of it but quickly fast fowarded to teh ending just so I can hear the ending theme by Yoko Ishida. I found out that I already own the cd that the song is on. Not sure if I'll give this series a chance.

On the translation notes--the most significant notes are in the show itself (see the ANN review for details), and the rest of the notes are pretty much explanations of how they handled some of the naming & honorifics for the English versions. They're helpful, but they're not essential for understanding the series.

The English dub was a big improvement from the trailer I watched. I was worried that the V.A. wouldn't put much feeling into it. But yeah I really enjoyed the first episode. Granted I'm confused by how spoiler[Takeru got the powers]; but I'm sure there will be an explaination soon enough. (FYI: I might've missed the explaination 'cause I was watching my baby cousin at the time.)
