I think in the next couple of years we'll be seeing at least one J-ROCK star hit it huge in the mainstream. With all these bands getting record deals from Tofu, Gearhead, Denko Secca, etc., it would be nearly impossible for none of them to hit it big.

I only noticed the rising popularity of J-rock with the slightly fading J-pop/trance. I feel as if a lot of the EDM-like songs are being replaced by J-rock instead. I don't really have a problem with it as long as it doesn't include lyrics about sex, violence, drugs, and death.

Uh-oh, that's what some of those visual-keis talk about. I've heard some ba ones too. Fortunately Gackt and Dir en Grey don't sing like that.

It's already "in" right now. Neutral

I, however, don't really listen to J-rock, except for an occasional YouTube video.

Yes, it is the "in thing". Why? Trend whores like the Hot Topic crowd are prone to falling for things that are Japanese in a horrible attempt to rebel American society, much like a large portion of the people at these boards.

In fact, anything Japanese has always been "in" for some reason I darn well don't know. Don't start losing your taste for bad music just because you think others are just finding out about it--it's just becoming more apparent, is all.

... The song that most people know Gackt for (somewhat unfortunately) is basically pure sex, and he's got a song like that on almost every album. And most of Dir en grey's lyrics are incredibly morbid. Have you ever seen photos of Kyo in performance, screaming with blood covering his face and words carved into his chest? Seems pretty violent to me...

I'm not sure whether to hope that Jrock gets big in the USA in the hopes that it'll spread here, or hope that it doesn't work so they try moving here instead Wink I can see Dir en grey becoming big because there isn't anything like them (that I know of at least) in the USA, but I think people like Hyde are going to have more problems Sad

To be honest I've never actually listened to Gackt's music save for one song, and that was "Another World". So I probably didn't even know about them then. I do know that a lot of Visual Kei's sing like that. My apologies.
