I checked the theater it was supposed to open up in near me and it was was never solicited. Guess they changed their minds in lieu of airing something else. Not a huge disappointment, it's not like I hadn't already seen it.

So--we may not get the Blu-ray until this fall or holiday season? Glad to see it seems to be doing well enough in theaters here, but it also seems to mean an even longer wait.

I think the BD will be out by Sep/Oct at the latest. Im more surprised it playing still, considering I saw it on its 2nd week and that was more than a month ago |

Rats! The closest location to my town is Nashville, and that's two hours away! How hard is it for them to get Poppy Hill into Evansville? It's housed Arrietty and Ponyo! I'm starting to miss Disney handling the Ghibli movies, at least they would bring the movies to more theaters.

Yes, but Disney also has Lasseter's intense Ghibliphilia guiding it with deeper pockets for such wide releases. If they had wanted this film, they likely would have grabbed it, but some of the themes may be "inappropriate" for Disney's religiously enforced image. Better this than no distribution at all, which is the majority of anime films licensed, which at most get previewed at anime conventions. |

I just came back from the Atlanta showing~ I loved it to death, even though it wasn't typical Ghibli fare.

Though Disney maybe could've released it under one of its other labels like they did Princess Mononoke. Each label has its niche, like each anime studio has its niche.

I always find it sad how poorly Ghibli films fare here. I mean do people realize that the last few Hayao helmers made 100s of million dollars worldwide, with both Howl's and Spirited hitting well past 200 million world wide, and this is with the US basically contributing nothing. Apparently the rest of the world nows something the US doesn't. Oh well I got to see when it showed a few weeks ago, and will pick up the blu ray. Guess everyone else is too busy watching "quality" animated works like the Croods.

Went to see it last night here in Charlotte. I absolutely loved it! The scenes revolving around the club house were by far my favorite.

But 80+% of those come from Japan alone. The rest of the world also basically contribute nothing, not just the US. Spirited Away Howl's Moving Castle |
