I was just looking at The Right Stuf on-line catalog, and they have listed the My Hime manga finally (release date Nov. 7 BTW). And I notice something. This is how they describe it on their site:
Quote: | Yuuichi Tate is overjoyed: he gets to go to a brand new high school. Of course, then he just happens to find out the school he chose is under frequent attack by strange creatures called "Orphans," and the school set up a special task force of female members called "HiMEs," using various elements as their powers to battle these invaders.
That's not all, though. Each member of the HiME task force has their own, unique "Key," another person whom, upon being discovered, can team up with the HiME to create a "Child," a combative unit specifically needed to effectively battle these Orphans. And with Yuuichi's luck, he just happens to find out he's not just the Key for one of the HiMEs, but for two... Two highly competitive, rival schoolgirls. And that's only the start of the trouble.
Adapted by Kimura Noboru and Satou Kenetsu, based on the anime created by Yatate Hajime. |
This is pretty much the same as what ANN's Manga Encyclopedia has.
My question is this: I've seen the first two dvds. Does the manga have a different focus from the anime? The manga description leads us to believe that the main character is Tate Yuuichi not Tokiha Mai, who seems to be the main character in the anime.
Should I get the manga when it comes out? Does it give me a different viewpoint of the story? Are the manga and the anime that completely different? Example: The Sailor Moon manga is completely different from the anime except for characters and very basic story lines. Is My Hime like that?
Thanks. I appreciate the feedback in advance.

I haven't read the manga, but from what I heard, it differs pretty greatly from the Mai-HiME anime. I think it is more romance heavy, but I can't be sure of that.
People seem to say that it isn't too great though.

I haven't actually read the My HiME manga, but I do know that it is significantly different from the anime. It has the same cast, but a very different story from my understanding. And Tate is the main character instead of Mai, apparently.
Also, according to that plot description, the HiME are a "task force set up by the school" which is completely different than how it was in HiME.
