Before anyone gets too excited, the Yaraon article google translates to this:

"I love that! Want to be in the two diseases in the" decision rebroadcast TV anime!

Scheduled to begin 30 minutes to broadcast on Friday, April 12 at 23:00 BS11
Look forward to it! http://www.anime-chu-2.com

That is a quote from a March 12 update on the official website. The rerun was announced two weeks ago.

That is a different update from the March 28 one about "contract renewed."

Ah, so it's a reairing? That makes more sense. I can't imagine what a second season would be about.

Isn't there the other novel material they didn't use?

Well, I didn't read the novels, but I heard that it was an anime original ending, so adapting the novels might be difficult, if that is the case.

FMA Brotherhood style, just kidding lol. I doubt this was popular enough for them to commit to remaking it for that reason. Thanks for the info though, didn't know it was an original ending.

Pretty much the whole thing was anime original, anyway. So novel contents don't really matter. As far as I know, Kumin, Dekomori and Touka weren't even in the novels. Its gone as far that much of 2ch actually considers it a KyoAni original anime.

Here are the characters from the novel version:

Two things:
1. The anime/novel relationship was pretty much related to episodes 1/5/portions of 6 only. Everything else was anime-original.

2. The official twitter account said:
Quote:
Would we make a new clip and Rikka image for just a re-broadcasting notice?! In short, "Contract Renewed!" Please wait for more details!"

Basically, I can think of three things they could mean:
1. New novel (already confirmed via Mantan Web), but they wouldn't say "renewed" for that.
2. Season 2 (most likely)
3. Movie (I doubt it since they could earn more revenue/promotion via TV airings and the added cost of getting a film distributor)

Yeah its probably a S2 but most kyo ani shows are green lit 3 years before they air...so it might be a while unless this was planned from the begining.

Most recent ones seem to have been announced 9 months prior. KyoAni is getting quicker.

I really hope this is a season 2. I know KyoAni can keep the quality up. Chuunibyou was my absolute favorite anime of 2012

Honestly, I hope this announcement is indeed for a rerun. To me the Chuu-2 anime is perfect as it is. I rather not see this wonderful anime ruined by a mediocre, money-milking season 2. I would be open to a movie or more OVA's, but not to another season.

Incorrect. Nichijou was green-lit in 2009 (announced May 2010/aired April 2011), Hyouka was green-lit in 2010 (announced November 2011/aired April 2012), Chuunibyou was green-lit sometime in 2009-2010 (announced December 2011/aired Ovtober 2012), and Tamako Market was green-lit in 2010 (announced November 2012/aired January 2013). Announcements=/= decisions to animate.

Wouldn't a reairing already be kinda soon?

I'm gonna hold out hope for a second season, however futile that might be.

What does it all mean?! WATASHI KININARIMASU!

But yeah, I'll be awaiting more news on this. :3

(Also Rikka is adorable in that teaser.)
