I've recently been checking out the music videos for some songs that have been used as anime opening and ending songs and well I don't know what to really think about them. My feelings for the music videos are split since there are a lot of good ones that i've seen but then theres the odd and unusual ones that make me laugh because they just seem so.........weird (in a way). For instance I loved the music videos for DAYS (By FLOW), My Pace (By Sunset Swish) and Asterisk (By Orange Range). However there have been the odd music videos like Night Of Fire (By: Hinoi Team), Re:member (By FLOW) and GO! (By FLOW). Oh yes and how can I forget about the music videos for the songs by the Beat Crusaders. They just seem odd compared to the music videos shown in America. Is that just me being used to seeing what I find normal American media or do you all think that Japanese music videos are odd as well.

Oh and I do know that there are the odd american music videos that seem stupid but i'm focusing more on the Japanese music videos.

It probably is just the fact that you're not really used to it. When I first started watching JMVs, I didn't really see anything strange about them, I found them to be better than most American ones anyway. But a lot of my friends found them odd and it took them a while to come around to watching more of them. Though the current pop trends in Japan are so heavily influenced by the Western culture that it's getting harder to tell what the stylistic differences are.

I agree with both of you.

Its kinda weird to see a video of the song that your
only exposure has been vocals.

One of my favorite JMVs is the one for "Fukai Mori"
by Do As Infinity. Its kinda trippy to see the video
when I always tie Fukai Mori to the ending of InuYasha
that it was used in.

I didn't want to make a new thread, so I'll just post my question here since its fitting. I saw a music video yesterday, but I don't remember the song or the artist. There was a girl with a butterfly mask using a yellow power tool of some sort that shot out a white laser beam to drill into a cave wall. And there were some rappers in the background dancing like demented puppets and scratching up records. Can anyone help me identify this?

Sorry can't help you there but you brought up a point that I'd like to address. Of all the music videos i've seen so far from japan all the vocalists can't dance for s**t. No offense and not a real basis since i've only seen music videos for: Orange Range, FLOW, Do As Infinty, High And Mighty Colour, Home Made Kazoku, Younha, Sunset Swish, Beat Crusaders and UVERworld but from what i've seen they can't dance more or less make motions that don't look the least bit odd compared to North American Artists. Don't criticize me since its mostly groups that don't really dance but still.

If you think bands such as FLOW have strange music videos you should watch the music videos to some visual kei bands. If you for example watch any of アンティック-珈琲店-'s (antikku cafe) music videos you will be suprised that the guitarist is a male afterwards.
Another good example is Kaggra, where all of the members look like girls.

Heh, if you reeeeally want video clips with guys that look like girls, have a look at Malice Mizer... Mana's fantastic Very Happy (Although I have to admit Bou from AnCafe wins on cuteness Wink) Crossdressing's pretty common in visual kei, although I think Isshi from Kagrra, has the distinction of being the only one you could still confuse for a girl after hearing him sing *grin*

But yeah, visual kei people tend to have the weirdest videos... The oddest ones I've seen come from Psycho le Cemu (Roman Hikou in particular).
