Part of me wants to order it, but at the same time, his films have all made it over to the US so I feel like I may have to double dip if they bring it over. Though I dont have a problem with that. Hmm, it would be more worth the money if the short he is doing was on it as well, but eh, what the heck, I think I'll go ahead and order it.

I've found Shinkai's work to be okay, but not quite good enough to justify import prices. Still, I do like the trend of Japanese movies including English subtitles.

Place Promised and the ADV dub for 5 CM were not bad...but I still vastly preferred them in Japanese. If the price is right (never imported before)...this will be awesome. Really short film tho.

Only $64 for a movie? Heck I thought anime movies were also extremely expensive judging from Kara no Kyoukai. And from this trailer I just watched the movie looks great. I might consider getting this.

Uh, Kara no Kyokai was 8 movies, so it's not that much of a difference in price...

Kara no Kyoukai costs $1,109.99 off Amazon. Devided by 8 it ends up being $138 a movie.

Wow that'd barely just qualify for the Oscars.

Wow, that's barely feature length, meaning I can't expect too much of a complex structure here.

That calculation is a bit off.
The KnK movies vary greatly in length, but every one of them is longer than 46 minutes (even up to 2,5 times as long).
If we go by price/minute and apply that number to The Garden of Words, it would cost around $89.

So yeah, this guy is "about" right (if you consider $24 "not that much of a difference", though).

On amazon japan it's cheaper than the price listed, but then you also have to count in shipping.
But I agree with the sentiments of it being fairly short. I figured it would have been at least an hour long.

Yeah I just got the Blu Ray of Tiger & Bunny The Beginning from Japan and it has english subs. In fact it was Viz who subbed it, and if they dub it I will get it also it. So I hope this trend contiues

Even if submitted it probably would not make the ballot for animated feature.
The nomination committee seems to only allow kiddie film to get on the ballot. Just check out the number of anime features submitted to see what the odds are.

It is not only continuing but seems to be growing.
I have also spotted many out of print in the US titles on subtitled release in Japan such as Oshi's Avalon.
With Blu-Ray you don't even need a special player as the US and Japan are in the same region.

What about the short film, "Dareka no Manazashi" (Someone's Gaze)? I really want to see that.
