It's James Cameron, not John Cameron.

This is why I will never again try to file a report at 9 a.m., after coming back to the room at six x_X;;;

Also, I hope FUNi does a better job with the theatrical release of the FMA movie than they've been doing with their other movies. I don't want to have to be at a theater at midnight to catch it. That's so 1992.

At ACen, FUNimation said that they're trying to get a wider release for the FMA movie than what their current movies are getting. However, it still wont be anything like a national real movie release.

This is complete BS. ADV Films isn't going to release Gasaraki or Lost Universe in thinpack editions? I purchased the first volume of Lost Uiverse when it originally released as a VHS.
Gasaraki I never even thought about picking up but I was hoping they would have released these two shows as thinpack collections. It's sad to hear they won't and anime fans who were waiting for these sets are not going to get the chance to see these shows. |

Maybe it's because as soon as they come out with a thinpack, the individual DVDs drop down to $7.99 and people buy up the individual DVDs. Also, those thinpacks only contain the episodes and not any extras. You might want the extras if you were thinking about buying Gasaraki.
It's good to hear that the Elfen Lied OVA will be released here after all. Now if ADV would only release episode 0 and the OVA of Kino's Journey and grab the other independent productions (Pale Cocoon, Yonna in the Solitary Fortress, etc).... WHo cares about anime extras? I don't. Typically they aren't much more than filler material to fill up the content of the DVD's. I've watched some of the extra bonus content on many of the 250 anime DVD's that I have and there isn't anything on those extras are anything worth watching.

@Colonel Wolfe: Some of us do. Besides, the extras on Gasaraki were actually helping to explain what was going on in the series. Saiyuki also had cultural notes that were explaining things. Same deal with Gilgamesh and Rahxephon.
So if your ADV title is complicated, the best way to get the full impact of the series is to buy the individual DVDs imo. |

i have to admit that only a small fraction of anime dvd's have cool extra features. Planetes was the only recent anime title that actually had some cool bonus features on it. I enjoyed the NASA interviews that Bandai placed on those DVD's.
To be truthful about it, the only extras that show up on anime DVD titles are the same old dreary eyed: clean opening and closing credits along with anime previews of upcoming DVD titles. I know there are a lot of anime fans here who can say that 9 out of 10 DVD's contain the same type pf bonus features. There's nothing really special about bonus features since they all consist of the same as I mentioned just now. |

I don't see how Transformers is going to determine the success of future adaptations. If it flops, it's because no one likes(or at least cares about) Bay anymore, not because of how faithful it was to the source material and whether there is or isn't a market for it. Anyone who makes a movie out of a show which, at its peak, can't beat Pokemon at its lull, in terms of merchandising sales, is expecting too much. Look at Inspector Gadget. It was nifty and whimsical for an 80's audience, but that didn't translate into box office success to a later generation. Sure, you can cite older shows which were successes like The Flintstones, and Scooby Doo, and Garfield, but those all had something in common: talking animals. Now if a movie from a big company like Pixar which features talking vehicles is getting a tepid reception from moviegoers, what are the chances of a movie which features talking robot cars suicceeding?

"Cars" isn't out yet and the early reviews are overwhelmingly positive. What "tepid reception" are you referring to? Furthermore, what planet do you live on? |

Variety didn't like it, but just about everybody else did. |

The Princess Tutu AMV is really freakin' awesome. The sync and the mood is spot on making it one of the most captivating dance/drama videos ever made. I'm actually glad that video won since it'll give the Princess Tutu series some exposure, and entice the viewer into buying the volumes (which it did to me ).

Notes from an editor who was in the contest:
-"Lost Ones" was Reigna's first video - this is the only reason why I'm able to forgive her tragic use of lip-syncing. It took away quite a bit, which is really a shame because the video was pretty awesome otherwise. -Take Me Away by Seen was quite good, and was generally the top choice among the editors to win Drama. -There needs to be more romance videos entered into the contest! According to Adam (the contest director), 10 out of the 99 submissions were romance. I'm lucky to have had mine make the finals (mine was the Voices of a Distant Star vid), and there was definitely some good stuff in there (particularly both Chrno Crusade vids), but there still needs to be more competition in that category. -Comedy was *amazingly* strong this year. I pulled off a squeaker with Fullmetal Hell, but there were good cases for any of the other vids to have won. AB's greatest contest yet, I just hope that more people will actually come see it next year! |
