let me start by saying im a newb to this site, i hope u guys will show me the ropes if im doing something wrong. anyhow, lately I've been dieing to find a series like neon genesis, i love it because its got a great story, and it goes through most of the characters inner battles, and its quite trippy towards the end. the art is ok i still love it, and i love how the music ties in with battle scenes and stuff, it has a great soundtrack, and i love in the end of evangelion how it gets all phsycodelic, and somewhat is following to the believes of promethea, about giving ones life worth. aftre watching the end of evangelion I've been hooked and would love to find a series similar...

Well, the most similar to Eva is the infamour RahXephon. Infamous of course because there's an ever waging war between the fans of each as to which is better due to the fact they are quite similar. Put the rivalry aside and they're both decent anime in their own right, I'm on the RahXephon side personally as I enjoyed that one and I'm not altogether fond of Eva personally.

EVA is an excellent show, but I enjoy RahXephon also - although not as much. Either way, I'd recomend both. Another relatively new show is Fafner. I've only seen the first few eps, but supposedly it goes down that path.
However, if you want a show that's a good show that's a bit crazy with awesome music, I'd like to recomend Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo. I came into it not familiar with the original novel, so if you have seen any of the other renditions of this story, you may not be as impressed. There is a mech battle, but that's not where the focus lies. The real attraction, to me, is the characters' relationships. The inner turmoil turns on very early in the series, and goes full blast until the end. All of the crazy backstories and secrets that everybody has comes out and even drives some people crazy. The art is unique, and although a bit distracting at first, it actually looks pretty cool. The music is completely awesome: huge epic orchestrated pieces surround somber piano tunes, and even some opera. This is not a mecha-action show by any means, but as a fellow fan of EVA looking for something a bit "crazy", I can't recomend this series enough. |

For more crazy mind trip series that will challenge your brain aside from RahXephon, I'd recomend anything Yoshitoshi Abe worked on like Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, and Texhnolyze. All three are pretty interesting if not downright masterpieces in the story department and you can expect a lot of great characters, interesting art, and eye candy.
