Full Metal Panic! (TV) (discussion here)
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (TV)
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (discussion here)
Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory (TV) (discussion here)

Genres: action, comedy, slice of life
Themes: military, school, school life

Plot Summary: It's back-to-school mayhem with Kaname Chidori and her war-freak classmate Sousuke Sagara as they encounter more misadventures in and out of Jindai High School. But when Kaname gets into some serious trouble, Sousuke takes the guise of Bonta-kun - the gun-wielding, butt-kicking mascot. And while he struggles to continue living as a normal teenager, Sousuke also has to deal with protecting his superior officer Teletha Testarossa, who has decided to take a vacation from Mithril and spend a couple of weeks as his and Kaname's classmate.

So I really loved Full Metal Panic and I was wondering if I should buy fumoffu.

Here is my question(s), I saw the previews for fumoffu and it looked like a romantic comedy, is that what it is? Becasue that just aint my style. I like a little of that but not a whole series. I loved the first FMP's action, does fumoffu have any action?

Get it!

Fumoffu is a series of 2 short stories per episode (usually). They're also funny as hell. My favorite is the outdoor painting class followed by Pony Man.

There really isn't that much romance in it unless you call Sousuke getting the crap beaten out of him by Kaname romance. But it's still very, very good and funny.

Action wise: there is an insane bicycle ride while being chased by police, a rugby squad gone seriously bad, a giant plushie with a machine gun and a kick a** attitude, a stubborn karate club, an angry teacher, an even more angry janitor, a rich boy's servants on attack to protect Kaname, ghosts, perverts, yakuza, and seriously pissed off students (twice).

I'm not certain if this takes place after FMP!. I think it does, someone else will know for sure.

Get it, it really is funny and enjoyable.

Fumoffu is flat out comedy. Only one or two episodes have anything to do with the romance between Sousuke and Kaname.

There's really no plot to speak of, but it is really funny. I recommend getting it.

I loved FMP I, II and III. However, if you do not like romantic or not-so-romantic comedy then I don't recommend it for you. You may want to skip directly to FMP III which has even more action than FMP I.

Yeah I really want TSR. That sounds awesome.

Let me ask this, is the kind of comedy in this more along the lines of Goldenboy, Trigun or Excel Saga?

Because I F-ing hate Excel Saga. WORST ANIME EVER.

Yeah, watch it! I've been watching it again and am posting up all the trivia I can about it to further expand the story... For instance In episode 3, there are some books that are being read by Chidori and Sagara's teacher on the beach... And they are some really odd choices for a teacher to read! Well if you want to know what I mean check out the Trivia Section where I put up the books and the synopsis of them... they are freaking hillarious when you put it together with the show!

I love this series! However some do not, as it is a bit different from the first anime series. Comedy and Romance, but more based on comedy, and always enjoyable.

No, it's not like the comedy in Excel Saga. There aren't really any parodies and it's not really as fast paced and crazy. It's much like the comedy in the first Full Metal Panic! series, except better and funnier. Highly recommended.

It's basically just one running joke through the whole series... but what a great joke. I thought the dub was quite impressive, too. I'd recommend buying the first DVD just to be certain you'll enjoy the humor, because the rest of the series is more or less exactly like the first couple episodes.

I bought the whole thing.

The comedy you find in FMP II is exactly the same kind of comedy you find in FMP I, i.e: Sasuke does something really stupid and Chidori beats the crap out of him. Personally, FMP II is one of the few anime comedies that made me laugh histerically. Especially the part where Sasuke has to fight the spoiler[karate team one by one on hand to hand combat ]. That part was hilarious. The only difference is that you don't get any action at all. There is some funny fighting scenes but I think he doesn't even get to shoot his gun (at least not with the intention to kill someone).

On a second thought, even if you don't like romantic comedies I think you will probably enjoy this one.

I've heard Fumoffu describes as "FMP without the mechs and action". I haven't seen it, but would this statement be correct?

I personally preferred Fumoffu? over Panic! It's entire focus is comedy, so there's essentially no seriousness. You might think some parts are lame, though (like the whole Bonta-kun deal). There really isn't any focused storyline, and it revolves primarily around pretty much random events surrounding Sousuke and Chidori and their actions.

I agree with what The Sphinx had to say. The type of comedy or storytelling doesn't change much from the beginning to the end, so if you enjoy the first few episodes you'll probably like the rest, and vice versa.

Yeah I thought Excel Saga was pretty lame, too. Even knowing what was going on with all the "menchi explanations" (rewatching some parts with the menchi notes from the extras), I still didn't find it humorous and just awkwardly trying too hard.

Yup. There are a few scenes where there is some gun play, but it is mostly in a comedic way, and cannot really be counted as action...
Oh, and the teddy bear suit might be labeled as mecha... because it is kindof a mobile armor suit... haha... That part is my favorite... I really love this series!

I would think to at least watch Fumoffu, and buy it if you are a collector. I thought that it continued the characters, more than it continued the FMP story arc. Which was nice, a little character development never hurt anyone.

I don't know that Fumoffu is necessary, but it does round things out a lot better than just leaving the series alone.

Query: What is a Bunticoon? A name or an animal? Is that what they were saying in the first place?

Bonta-kun. It's the name of that teddy-bear mascot thing. Kaname has a small one. I don't recall whether she had it in the first series or not though.
